Michael “Mike” Lee Mart

Michael Lee Mart, 82, of Rochester, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Michael was born on February 28, 1944, in Armstrong, Iowa. He married Bette Ann Jorgensen on October 10, 1964, in Lewiston. He lived in Rochester for 63 years and previously resided in St. Charles. Michael owned Mart’s Painting and Decorating and worked at Rochester Decorator’s and St. Mary’s Hospital.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Michael found joy in the outdoors. He loved fishing for walleye on the Mississippi River and spent many years hunting deer, turkeys, bear, elk, and moose. He enjoyed tending his garden and harvesting fruit from the trees in his backyard. Michael dedicated more than 60 years to the painting trade, specializing in interior and exterior work that helped shape many homes and businesses in the community.

He is survived by his children, Jane (Scott) Clough, Lee Mart, and Kelly (Todd) Anderson; seven grandchildren—Kimberly, Kristine, and Katee Clough; Ashley and Chad Mart; and Blake and Devin Anderson; and his beloved dog, Jersey. He is also survived by five sisters—Judy Johnson, Joleen Sanders, Rosemary Ludwig, Sally Gehring, and Marilyn Connery and one brother, Ted Mart.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bette Ann Jorgensen; his parents, Clara and Francis Mart; a daughter, Michelle; and three brothers, Allen, Robert, and John Mart.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 3, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Eagles Club in Rochester.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses, doctors, and care team at Mayo Clinic and Seasons Hospice for their compassionate care and for helping ensure Michael’s comfort at home during his final days.
