Michael “Mike” H. Adkins
Michael “Mike” Hale Adkins, 65, of Rochester, died surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026, at Saint Marys Hospital after a two-year battle with cancer.
He was born on September 19, 1960, to Elizabeth “Betty” (Whalen) and Wallace “Wally” Adkins, the third of six children. Born in North Minneapolis, his family relocated to St. Michael, MN when he was in grade school. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Business Administration. During college, he worked for his aunt who served on the Minneapolis City Council. After graduation, he was employed as a Trust Assistant at Richfield Bank where he met his future spouse Maureen “Reenie” Garvey.
They spent their early marriage in Los Angeles, where he worked at CCH Computax as a Tax Analyst. After moving home to the Midwest, they started their family in Minneapolis before relocating to Rochester, MN with their young children. He earned his MBA from St. Thomas University while working full time and raising their three children.
He was a constant presence in his children’s upbringing including coaching sports, attending band performances, and leading scouting events. He demonstrated the importance of civic engagement in one’s community by volunteering his time at St. Pius X, Rotary Club, United Way, American Red Cross, A Litter Bit Better, STRIVE mentorship, Family Promise Rochester, being treasurer of every organization he was involved with, and many hours donating blood.
He spent the majority of his career at US Bank where he established himself managing investment portfolios, work he continued at Bremer and Associated Banks. He was happy to impart his financial wisdom to anyone who asked.
His favorite pastime was playing baseball, ultimately joining the Rochester Roosters 1860s vintage baseball team. He also followed Gopher sports and anything his kids were involved in. Other hobbies included golf, beekeeping, and working in the yard.
He is survived by his wife Maureen, their three children, Anthony (Jennifer) Adkins of Dallas, Kelly (Alec) Vicenzi of St. Paul, and Shannon Adkins of Hopkins, MN; 4 grandchildren, Lola and Joaquín Gonzalez-Adkins, and Charles and Harrison Vicenzi; his brother Patrick (Joy) Adkins; sisters Kathy (Rod) Merry, Caroline (Tom) Bjellos, and Nancy (Chris) Boeckers; brothers-in-law Mike (Kathy) Garvey and Tim Garvey; sister-in-law Patrice (Tom) Emond; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Betty and Wally, sister Susan Niess, nephew Ryan Niess, and parents-in-law Jim and Mickey Garvey.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2026, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, 1105 12th St SE, Rochester, MN 55904, followed by a Celebration of Life with food and drinks.

So very sad for your loss. I worked with Mike as a Portfolio Manager when he was at Bremer. Always enjoyed his intelligence, humanity and friendship. All the best to the family and friends.

Maureen & family,
We want to tell you how sorry we are to hear about Mike’s passing. He was such a kind and gentle man!
We met your husband almost 26 years ago when we became clients of his. We so trusted Mike’s knowledge that we followed him from US Band, to Bremer and then to Associated. Even though it started as a professional relationship, we grew to value his friendship as well.
We are thankful that we got to know him and he will be missed.

To the Adkins Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I grew up right down the road on 29th street. I was good friends with Tony. Mike was always such a nice guy and was involved in a lot of the things me and Tony were into. I remember him helping out in boy scouts and coaching baseball. Always good times! I will be praying for your family in these times.

We are so sorry for your loss, Reenie, Tony, Kelly, Shannon and family. Reenie, one of the first details you told me about Mike was his love for playing vintage baseball. As I recall, he was planning to play a double header the next weekend, in his full uniform, never mind the 90 degree-plus heat and extreme heat warnings. Mike was tenacious and determined in everything he did, and was so very loyal to those he claimed as his, whether it was his family, his work colleagues, or his beloved Minnesota sports teams. How fortunate we all were to know him.
Dear Adkins Family,
You do not know our family but your Mike was a part of ours. I was a widow with 3 young children when I met Mike at Bremer Bank (or, what it was before Bremer) and then moved to Associated to be with him and Darcy Elmer again. He was a steady, calm and extremely knowledgeable voice for me and my children. He taught me that I could trust someone with the financial part of my life. He also understood and lived the “family first” mentality that guided my decisions. He will be sorely missed by our family. We will be planting a tree in his honor, here in the Chicago area.
So very sorry for your loss.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with Mike. He was a talented colleague and someone I truly admired. No matter the situation, he was a steady, pleasant presence who brought a great perspective to our conversations. He had a quiet way about him and i always felt like i just recieved a warm smile after every conversation. He will be missed.
To the family, friends, and fellow colleagues of our cherished leader, Mike:
Though time passed quickly, our world was a much better place as Mike modeled the way in our financial services community. From experiences I recall at US Bank to our current Associated Bank Family, he graced us with his intellect and care every day.
Mike exuded collegiality in every interaction and left a treasured legacy watermark in our hearts and minds forever.
May your light be as bright as your love for others, Mike. You will be always remembered and forever missed.

Mike was not only a great colleague, but an exceptional member of our community. I am truly grateful for the time I had the privilege of working with him at US Bank and later welcoming him to our team at Associated Bank. His calm, disciplined approach to his work made him a natural leader—one who led by example every day.
Through the strong relationships he built with staff of all experience levels and backgrounds, our team gained invaluable knowledge in Trust and Wealth Management. Mike’s steady presence, integrity, and willingness to share his expertise made a lasting impact on all of us.
He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Sending my thoughts and prayers to your family. Mike was a great co-worker. Very smart and easy going. Mike was my honey supplier. Whenever I asked, Mike would drop off a pint of honey on my desk. Mike will be missed at the bank.
Dear Reenie and Family,
We were so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. We still remember Mike coaching Tony and Mark in baseball and all of the other adventures they got involved in. Mark still refers to him as "Coach".
