Michael “Mike” Eichendorf

Michael L. Eichendorf – Rochester
Michael L. Eichendorf passed on into eternal life on December 16, 2025 at Methodist Hospital after an extended battle with medical issues. Mike was born at St. Mary’s Hospital on October 28, 1946. He was 79. He attended St. John’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Lourdes High School in 1964. He also attended Rochester Jr. College and then enlisted in the Navy for four years. He was stationed in Pensacola, Florida where he was an Aircraft Carrier Mechanic and earned the rank of E5 Second Class AME. He worked on the Blue Angels.

After his honorable discharge, he got a job at Assisi Heights as a boiler engineer, serving the needs of the Franciscan sisters for 53 years. Mike is survived by his sister Judy (Eichendorf) Kidder and her husband Bill. He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews, friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Irene and Leonard Eichendorf and his sister and brother-in-law, Barb and Bill Gernes. A private Memorial Service will be held at Assisi Heights.

His family would like to thank the loving, caring staff of Samaritan Bethany, as well as the Mayo staff, doctors, and nurses at St. Mary’s and Methodist Hospitals, who took such good care of Mike. We are comforted by Psalm 23: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Judy and Family, so sorry to read of Mike's passing. I spoke with him a few times while my parents were at Arbor Terrace with him. May he rest in peace. Prayers for you and your family at this difficult time. 🙏🙏

Peggy (Arendt) Stebbins

Dear Eichendorf Family,

I worked with Mike for summers and school breaks from about 1974-1982. I worked on the grounds and also was a painter at Assisi Heights.

Mike had a joyful quick wit. He treated all the student workers respectfully and as peers. He was very smart—knew how to fix and do most anything from automobile mechanics to boilers to anything HVAC or plumbing or electrical. He was well-read, interested in talking about world events in the news.

We shared a common bond of being graduates of Lourdes High School.

I believe most workers at Assisi Heights—as well as the Franciscans—remember Mike very fondly. He was a gentle giant with a big heart and treated all of us with great care and respect.

You are in my prayers as you mourn the loss and reflect on the good life of this fine man.
