Michael A. Blount

Michael Blount, 65, of Rochester died Wednesday, August 18,2021 at St Marys Hospital due to complications of Aphasia.

Michael was born July 4, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois to Jessie & Charles Etta (Rogers) Blount. He attended school in the Chicago Public School System. In approximately 2002, Michael moved to Rochester to be closer to family. Michael lived in various REM group homes, Cottage Wood Senior Care, and attended SMB day program. Michael worked with Possibilities for many years as a housekeeper at many hotels until his retirement in 2004.

Michael loved socializing, shopping, going for rides, and talking on the phone. Being a July 4^th baby- he was the firecracker in the room, light up many lives, always had a smile & the BEST Hugs ever!

He is survived by his brothers, Jerry Blount of Las Vegas NV, Eric Blount of Chicago IL, Dana Blount of Fort Worth, TX; sister, Vivian Blount of Chicago IL; many nieces and nephews; a former roommate who Michael called “ his brother” David Claude; his REM, SMB, and Cottage Wood family. He was blessed with his guardian & friend, Darla Nienoord, and his case manager & friend, Matt Hickman, who helped Michael along his life journey & made sure he had all he needed.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Charles Etta in 2017, siblings Jesse JR Blount in 1990, Frederick Blount in 1995, and Charles Blount in 2009.

In life, Michael was a kind and giving person who loved fiercely. When his health was better, Michael spent Sunday cooking fried chicken for his roommates & always made a basket for his momma who resided at a Winona Nursing home until she passed. Michael took her chicken dinner and visited her every other Sunday faithfully. In Death Michael continued to give as an organ donor of his corneas, skin, and tissue. We are at peace knowing on his death day he was reunited with his mother.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Oakwood Cemetery followed by a luncheon and fellowship to share memories of Michael at the SMB Day program at 2616 E Frontage Rd, Rochester, MN 55901. All are invited to join either service.

Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice in memory of Michael Blount.
