Micah Chetrit
Micah Orr Chetrit
He taught us fortitude, perseverance, generosity, and so much more.
From a young age Micah loved the outdoors, running, swimming at the lake, and following his older brother around with no constraints or fears. His inquisitive mind was always searching for treasures and adventures. Coupled with his ever-growing tendency to collect things, and with the help of his older brother and faithful golden retriever, he brought home frogs, baby rabbits, baby snappers, injured birds, and lost cats, to name a few. Micah’s love of pets accompanied him throughout his life, especially his beloved companion cat for many years, Frannie.
At the age of six, Micah was diagnosed with a unique strand of muscular dystrophy, a cruel disease that overtook him too soon. With each passing year his challenges grew. First physically, but also socially, mentally, and spiritually. This did not deter Micah’s tenacity. At the age of 16, consistent with his love for the outdoors, he reached the rank of Eagle Scout. At school, Micah excelled academically and participated in several extracurricular activities. He reached State level at MathCounts competitions and was nominated MVP with the New-London-Spicer Robotics team. In college, Micah graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with Summa Cum Laude honors. During his senior year in college, he was hired by IBM and moved to Rochester MN to work for them upon graduation. Micah was a part of IBM’s micro-processor design group, at the leading edge of the high-tech industry, working to design the core of large-frame, cutting-edge computers.
Micah continuously expressed kindness and generosity. He enjoyed searching for unique and special gifts for his family and friends, and witty, thoughtful books for his niece and nephew. He also enjoyed hosting friends and playing both tabletop and video games with them. Micah was compassionate and understanding towards the brokenhearted and the hurting. He regularly supported multiple charities in more ways than his modesty revealed. In his continuous quest for knowledge, Micah would read unfathomable numbers of books each month and became a true collector of books from many genres. He was an endless source of information, and with wisdom and maturity that his progressing disease accelerated to beyond his years. He had the ability to converse with anyone, on any level, and enjoyed staying connected with his friends from around the world.
With each passing year, Micah carried an ever-increasing weight on his weakening shoulders due to the progression of the muscular dystrophy that was handed to him at young age. A weight only few understand, and even fewer are able to bear. For all those who walked beside him on this journey, we are grateful.
Micah is survived by his parents, Cyndi & Guy Chetrit, his older brother Aviv Chetrit and his wife Autumn, and their two children Melody and Ari. Micah left behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins around the world.
His blessed memory will accompany his family, and many others, for the rest of their lives. He is and will forever be missed as his legacy carries on with those he loved.

Many years ago I had the pleasure of working with Micah when he moved to Rochester. He was so sweet and humble, and smart beyond measure. He had just gotten his cat, Frannie and loved her dearly. My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. Micah will always be remembered for striving to remain independent and appreciating every bit of assistance he received. He'll hold a piece of my heart forever
We're so very sorry for your loss. Our son, Michael, spoke proudly of Micah. I know they stayed in contact and were good friends. I remember before their Mankato graduation he spoke of Micah already having a position with IBM. I see them now sharing stories and talking all things electrical engineering. We truly appreciate that Micah planned on attending Michael's celebration. May he be at peace.

Guy, Cyndi and Family, when I heard of Micah's passing, I was deeply saddened and touched. Guy, you may recall that you, Randy Schmidt and I toured the IBM facility with Micah over the Holidays when the site was largely empty. I'd met Micah previously at Mankato and followed with some interviews that lead to that plant visit. The obituary was beautiful and captured many of the elements that made Micah an attractive employee and human being. After hiring, we continued to have regular conversations even though he had hired to a different specialty. I'm grateful for the entire sum of my experiences with Micah.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Micah's passing. While I didn't have the opportunity to know Micah well, Micah was good friends with my late boyfriend, Mike. I wanted to reach out on behalf of Mike to pass along my most sincere condolences.
Mike loved keeping up with Micah, he would call Micah regularly and made a point to trek down to Rochester to visit. Last fall, Mike and Micah invited me to join them on their visit. Micah and I spoke about books for a while before we went to dinner. Micah had a great suggestion to go to Mongolian BBQ and it was delicious. We shared an engaging conversation that night and I looked forward to another visit. After Mike's passing, Micah graciously offered support and being an ear if I needed someone to talk to.
Micah meant a lot to Mike. Mike always spoke very highly of Micah and enjoyed their conversations. Wishing the family peace and comfort during this unimaginably difficult time.

I am saddened to hear this and am so sorry for your incredible loss. Micah was such a bright light to all who knew him. I will forever be grateful to have gotten the chance to know him. He was funny, incredibly witty and so kind.

I am so sorry for the loss of a wonderful kid. The world has lost a bright shiner. He helped my kids to be better people. And his sly humor was a treat. Go NLS robotics.
So sorry to hear of Micah's passing. Micah worked at IBM on my team in the Circuit Technology Organization. While I didn't know Micah well, it was great to have him on our team, and I appreciated his positivity in spite of his physical limitations. My deepest condolences.
