Maureen Drury Utecht of Rochester passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Sunrise Cottages. Maureen was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI graduated from Messmer High School and later worked at the Wisconsin Phone Company. She married the love of her life, William, in 1941 and moved with him to St. Paul, MN. Maureen had six children and spent her life caring for her family. Maureen’s passions were reading, travel, decorating and creating a beautiful home with her unique style. She also volunteered with Catholic Charities and the Dorothy Day House. Maureen and her family moved to Rochester in 1968 where she continued her work at Dorothy Day House and also spent time visiting the sick and elderly. When her children were grown she worked at St. Marys Hospital in Marian Hall.
Maureen was all Irish and very proud of her parents Michael and Marie Drury of County Mayo, Ireland. Maureen and William took a trip to Ireland in 1979 and met all her parent’s relatives and kept in touch with them throughout her life. Maureen was a devout Catholic and especially devoted to the Virgin Mary and St. Theresa of the Little Flower. Maureen was blessed with a witty sense of humor and a genuine caring and loving nature. We will miss and treasure her forever.
