Maryann Birdseye

The Funeral Mass for Maryann Birdseye will be 11:30AM Thursday, April 26, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester, officiated by Rev. Paul Nelson. Maryann, age 72, died peacefully at home with family Monday, April 23, 2012.

Maryann was born April 11, 1940 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to John and Mary Jane (Tormey) Heintzman.  On August 23, 1958 she married Art Birdseye.  The couple moved to Vermillion, SD and then Bloomington, MN. In 1967 they relocated to Rochester where she assisted her husband in the founding and operation of B&F Distributing.

Maryann was an active member of the Friends of Mayowood and Rochester Art Center. She was a co-founder and annual participant in the Lourdes Auction.  She loved cooking, especially with the Great Eight Gourmet group. She was an accomplished piano player.  Maryann loved decorating for all Holidays and entertaining for any occasion. Spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life, brought her much joy. Maryann always made everyone feel welcome and at ease.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Art, a daughter, Barbara (John) Jensen; a son, Steve (Lisa) Birdseye; grandchildren, Julie (Mike) Pehler, Matt (fiancé, Chelsee VonWald) and Nic Jensen, Baihly, Brooklyn and AJ Birdseye and great-grandson, Mason Pehler. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Michael James and a brother, Paul.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to a scholarship fund established at Lourdes Foundation in memory of Maryann Birdseye.

“My Nana had ears that really listen, arms that always hug & hold, love that’s never ever ending, and a heart that’s made of gold.” -Unknown

Friends may call from 5:00PM to 8:00PM Wednesday at River Park Chapel of Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.

Dear Art & family,

It is times like this we realize just how much it means to have family, and caring friends.

Maryann had a voice and laugh that made me think of the tinkle of silver bells.

She was a wonderful friend and a beautiful hostess to our last "dragon lady" get-together.

    We shall all miss her..

With Love,  Marilyn (Winnie)

Art, Barb, Steve, and family:

My heart is broken for you all.  We truly lost one of God's best way too soon.  Maryann always treated me as one of her own.  She was my "second mother," my friend, confident, and inspiration.  I consider her one of God's greatest blessing in my life.  She never ceased to amaze me with her devotion to her family, her courage, grace, and humilty.  She taught me that here was not a hole in my heart but an opening--an opening in which to let love, family, and friendship in.  She had the spiritual gifts of love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and gentleness.  Maryann made a difference in my life and a difference in the lives of everyone she touched.  Her greatest joy was to see someone else happy and to bring a bit of sunshine into their life in any way she could.  Her love for Art, Barb, Michael, Steve, and all her grandchildren was the greastest expression of a wife and mother's love that have ever seen.

God bless you all and give you comfort in this time of grieving,

Love,

Catie Spiten

What more could I say other than Maryann was a "Class Act"? I'm quite sure I was one of many touched by her gift of friendship! Although I was an employee of the company, I often felt treated like a member of the family. We will miss her... God Bless you all!

Mike and Kim Donahoe

What is there to say about Maryann?  She was a truly magnificent person.  When I met her, I felt that I had known her all of my life.  She was the best friend that my husband, Gordon, ever had.  I know, also that she was also the best friend to anyone who knew her. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, and she can never be replaced.

Rest in peace, dear one.

Gordon and Cathy Holmes
