Mary Rose Wolter

Mary Rose Wolter, 96, of Rochester passed away peacefully Friday, Sept 14, 2018 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.

Mary Rose Kilkelly was born on November 10, 1921 in Osceola Township, WI to Lawrence and Mary (Handrahan) Kilkelly. She graduated from St. Margarets Academy in 1939. She worked for Bell Telephone in Minneapolis. On June 21, 1943 she married Orval V. Wolter in Springfield, MA. They moved to Rochester from Bloomington, MN in 1958. She was a dedicated housewife and homemaker, as family was most important to her. Once the youngest child was in school, she returned to work and retired from Dayton’s in 1992. Mary was a wonderful wife, mom, gramma and great-gramma and will be dearly missed.

Mary is survived by her eleven children, Geri (Dave Swenson) of Round Rock, TX, Michael (Pon), Mary Jo (Michael Gadient) of Burnsville, Pat of Dover, Betty (Larry Brubaker) of Dover, Tim (Delrae) of Cresco, IA, Deb (Mark Bohlen), Jim (Mary) of Rushford, Kathleen Bailey of Coon Rapids, Tom (Tonya), and John (Jum) of Pekin, IL; 31 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orv; son-in-law, Charlie Bailey; grandson, Ian Bailey; three brothers and one sister.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Co-Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Rochester with the Rev. Msgr. Gerald A. Mahon officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester and at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

Special thanks to the staff at St. Charles Assisted Living (Dori’s place); Chosen Valley Care Center; Season’s Hospice and her special angel Maria.

My condolences to the Wolter Family. I knew Betty & Kathleen from Macy's (Dayton's) and working with Mary. She was a very sweet lady and we shared many family stories at coffee break.  Blessed be her memory.

Mary Jo and Pat, my thoughts are with you. Losing a mother is one of life’s greatest sorrows. Your mom was really a special lady!  I always admired how cheerful and welcoming she was whenever I visited your home. I know you’ll miss her terribly. May your fond memories of happy times together give comfort during this difficult time.
