Mary Rita Vitse
Mary (Kingsley) Vitse, 85, of Rochester, MN, formerly of Harmony, MN, passed away on July 26, 2015, at Cottagewood Senior Communities, where she resided the past two years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 31, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester, with Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Fountain Lutheran Cemetery, Fountain, MN. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2015, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
Mary was born on February 23, 1930, in Winneshiek County, IA, to Joseph and Rita (Hanlon) Kingsley. Mary graduated from Harmony High School in 1948. She married Robert (Bob) Vitse on March 26, 1951. They lived the majority of their 64 years together in Harmony; in 2005, they moved to Rochester to be closer to family.
Mary was employed by the Harmony School District for 35 years, where she worked in food service. She enjoyed her daily interactions with students and faculty. She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church and joined St. Pius X when she and Bob moved to Rochester. She was a devoted wife, and a loving mother to her two sons, Edward and Michael.
She is survived by husband Robert of Rochester; two sons, Edward (Janet), and Michael (Merri), both of Rochester; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; brother, Thomas Kingsley; and sister, Teresa Bremseth.
Memorials are preferred to the Fountain Lutheran Cemetery Assoc. or Mayo Hospice.
