Mary Louise (Lou) Reitemeier

The funeral for Mary Louise (Lou) Reitemeier will be at 2:00 pm Friday, March 9, 2012 at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Rochester, Minnesota.  Rev. Msgr. Gerald Mahon officiating.

Lou, 59, of Chanhassen, MN died Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Fairview-Southdale Hospital in Edina after a courageous 14 month battle with lung cancer.

Lou was born June 1, 1952 in Rochester to Dr. Richard and Patricia Reitemeier. She graduated from Lourdes High School and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Lou worked for Ernst & Young, LLP in Minneapolis.

Lou is survived by her mother, Patsy, of Rochester; one sister, Sue (Jeff) VanVonderen of St. Paul, five brothers and their families; Paul (Katie, Gabriel, Ben, and Rebecca) Reitemeier of Rockford, Michigan; Joe (Pat, Michele, Brent (Amber), Stephanie and Chris (Jen)) Reitemeier of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; Robert (Pamela, Alex, Jacob and Sam) Reitemeier; of St. Albans, England; Patrick (Diane Nordquist) Reitemeier, Minneapolis; Dan (Wendy, Chelsey Sprouse, Colin and Cassidy) Reitemeier; Palm Bay, Florida along with her very special niece Katie Grohs of St. Paul. She will be missed as well by her special friends from her craft club (Bonita, Deb, Rita, Marcia, and Lisa), and her card club (Adele, Barb, and Margaret) and Kate Pesher, of St. Louis. She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Richard Reitemeier MD.

Lou was a very special friend, not only to her family, but to everyone who was lucky enough to know her. Lou was the family historian, a devout Christian, an avid and artistic card maker, nature lover, world traveler and was known for always remembering everyone’s special events with her beautiful handmade cards.

We are so grateful to the many doctors and nurses who cared for Lou over the last year, especially the staff at Minnesota Oncology.

Donations can be made to the Minnesota Arboretum, 3675 Arboretum Drive, Chaska, MN, 55318, toward a memorial gift which will be placed there in her name.

Macken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. On-line condolences are welcomed at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.

Dear Reitemeier Family,

I am traveling out of the country and just talked with Chris who informed me about Lou's passing.  I was shocked and so sad.  Chris and I both send our deepest sympathy for all of the Reitermeir's.  Lou was a beautiful person on every level.  A model for everyone who knew her.  Always smiling, always positive and had such a sweet soul.  You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Aunt Pat and Cousins,

I was so distressed to hear that Lou had lost her bout with cancer.  I was under the impression that she had battled the demon and had come out victorious!  Although we were always  a bit competative as children, we did look forward to the family reunions. I was always so jeolous how close you all were and ready to come to the aid of anyone who threatened the Reitemeir clan.  Although, over the years we did not keep in touch, I was always made aware of the family memebers through my mother or Aunt Margie.

I will never forget the lovely note that Lou sent after my mothers' passing last April.  As devistating as that was to me to experience  the loss of her, to lose a sibling with many wonderful years ahead must have been a major shock and difficult to comprehend.  My heart goes out to you all!

With love and prayers,

Janet

With deepest sympathy.

Dear Reitemeier Family,

Mary and I would like to extend our sincere condolences to Lou's family.  I am truly sorry for your loss. Lou was an incredible person; I work with her at Norwest Bank and have many pleasant memories.  We would always discuss her visits home and the beautifully drive back on early Monday morning. Lou loved her family and would share warm experiences from family vacations to one on one visits. Lou enjoyed life and was a very kind person, our prayers are with you.

Dear Reitemeier family, so sorry to hear of your loss.  Lou and I were co-workers at Ernst & Young.  We did not work in the same office but I always looked forward to seeing her smiling face at various training sessions.  She was a kind soul that will be dearly missed by many people.  Please accept my sincere condolences.

Dearest family,

As you gather together, we send with Bob, our love and prayers from across the miles in England. We've been looking back over some beautiful photos of Lou in family gatherings over the years, remembering her infectious laughter, humour, kindness and thoughtfulness. The Lord bless you and keep you, dearest Lou, may His face shine upon you and give you peace.

My sincere condolences in the passing of dear Lou.  I had the pleasure of working with Lou several years ago at Ernst & Young ~ such a delightful woman.  Warm memories of Lou remain vivid in my mind.  We shared many good ‘Rochester’ stories and many laughs.  Lou was an amazing person and will forever be in our hearts.  May memories shine through the sorrow.

I was so saddened to hear the news of Lou's passing, and please accept my heartfelt condolences to the entire extended Reitemeier family. Through all of these years I have never forgot my time sittng around the table in the Reitemeier kitchen, and I always remember how nice Lou treated us little high school smart alecks. She would always take the time to visit and joke with us, make us feel like we were the smartest and funniest guys she ever met. It was always nice to shoot the breeze with her. It has been many years, but I remember. You don't forget the nice people like her that pass through your life. My thoughts and prayers are with you all,    Tim Nolden

I had the pleasure of working with Lou at Ernst & Young.  She was a calming presence and the voice of reason on so many occasions.  I didn't get to see her on a daily basis, but I always enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with her at regional events.  She was a special lady and a real asset to our team.  I am so sorry for your loss - your family will be in my prayers.

Dear Reitemeier Family,

I am truly sorry for your loss. Lou was an incredible person. I remember working for her as a temp at Northwest Bank way way way back. Although I only worked for her for a short time, she always had a smile and greeted me every day with something nice to say. I was going through a tough time during this period, not knowing what I wanted to do, no jobs available in accounting, but when I had a chance for a full time position at another company,  Lou wrote a wonderful, positive recommendation that I know had a lot to do with getting hired and it started my career in long-term health care. And for that I am forever grateful to Lou!

My condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out to Patrick, Sue, Joe, Bob, Dan, Paul, and their families. And today I will say a special prayer for your beautiful, wonderful mother!

Brian Fuhrmeister

Please accept our deepest sympathies for your loss. Lou and family are in our thoughts and prayers. God bless.

Kathy & Brad Pike

My heart goes out to Lou's family and friends.  Lou and I were co-workers at Ernst & Young.  Though we didn't work in the same office, I always enjoyed talking with her at various trainings or other gatherings.  She had an amazing spirit and will truly be missed.  With deepest sympathy.

Dear Reitemeier family,

I have often thought about Lou over the years. We attended the University of MN together, meeting in a Chaucer class. Lou was a wonderful woman. I enjoyed her company and although we knew each other only briefly, I have always wondered about her and how her life was going. I was apparently right in my opinion of her. She was a special person and her passing is a loss to all of us. I am so sorry.

Dearest sister Lou,

I will always remember your bright smile, cute laugh, and contagious positive attitude. I love you.

Patrick

Joe, Sue, and Families,

Our thoughts of Lou are in our hearts tonight. We have been blessed to have met Lou, and your great Family over these past years.  Please know we have you all in our thoughts and prayers.

I am so very sorry for your great loss. Lou was a remarkable woman and Dovie's beloved first born grand daughter. I am so happy they are together now. My thoughts and prayers are with all the Reitemeier family. Love, cousin Char

My thoughts are with all the Reitemeier family at this very sad time.  I pray for God's comfort and sweet peace for all of you.  Lou is indeed an Angel in heaven now!  I still hold the Agate Lake memories close to my heart and just recently came across the pictures I took.  My deepest sympathy and much love to each of you.  Cousin Eileen

Many condolences to all of your family.  I know you are all hurting and missing Lou, and hope that happy memories of better times can ease some of the pain of your loss. You will feel her absence but hopefully always feel her love.

Monnie Overkamp

Co-worker. Mentor. My Friend. I had the privilege to call Lou all of these things. I could always count on her for an encouraging word, an insightful observation, a nudge in a different direction, and the hard truth when I needed it. Her generosity of self was an irreplaceable gift. I will miss the sharing of good books, movies, and music with her, our spirited debates on varied topics, and so much more. Her sense of adventure, curiosity, and creativeness serve as an inspiration.

To the Reitemeier Family, I want to thank you for sharing Lou with me. I hope it gives you comfort to know how much she was loved and esteemed. She will be missed by everyone who had the luck to know her.

Dear family and friends of Lou,

I'm sorry for your great loss. Lou attended the LHS 40th Class reunion in August 2010.  It was great for me and others to visit with this fine lady.  As always, she had that radiant smile.

Prayers & thoughts to her dear Mom, siblings, nieces, nephews & friends.

With deepest sympathy,

Joan Kneeskern

Sleep well my darling sister! Dad is coming to collect you and introduce you to your lord and savior Jesus, and offer you an everlasting life in paradise. You have earned it and deserve such a blessed gift. I miss you,I love you! Good bye earthly angel. Thank you for all the years of laughter!!

ALL my love

Daniel J.

To all the Reitemeiers, especially Aunt Pat, I am so sorry to hear Lou passed. She always had a special spark of life, even as a little girl. She was generous with her time and talents, of which she had so many. There was a kindness about her that could not be missed. I know she is “Lou” to you all, but for me, I feel the world is a bit less bright today because it no longer has the radiance and grace of my favorite cousin, Mary Lou.

Joe and family---I am so very sorry for your loss.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

My fond memories of Lou from my years of working with her at E&Y... no matter how crabby we got about the billing procedures and deadlines, Lou always had a smile as she helped impose those rules and get everything resolved and completed on time!  She was the kindest taskmaster I have ever known!

We talked often about the changing seasons at the Arboretum and what she had seen on her walks there.  Lou was always a ray of light for me, and I am so sad she isn't a part of our lives anymore.  My condolences to your family.
