Marvin Quintin Quanrud

Marvin Quanrud, 89, died peacefully at home on Friday, March 30, 2018.  Marvin was born September 10, 1928 in Preston, Minnesota.  His family moved from Lanesboro to Harmony, Minnesota when he was 10 years old where he graduated from Harmony High School in 1946.

He served in the U.S. Air Force beginning in 1948 until being honorably discharged in 1952.  Following completion of the Pharmacy Procedure Course at Fort Sam Houston in 1949, he worked as a pharmacist at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Marvin married Mildred Newgord on February 21, 1960 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester.  They lived in Harmony, Minnesota until moving to Rochester in 1964.

Marvin was a carpenter and independent contractor, specializing in homebuilding, remodeling, and finish work.  He retired in 1991 and was recognized as a 50 year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America in 2014.  He was also a long-time member of the Free Masons and the Scottish Rite.

He was a master craftsman with an eye for detail and enjoyed wood carving and building custom bird houses.  For more than ten years he trained Labrador retrievers and traveled around the U.S. competing in American Kennel Club license retriever field trials.  With his best dog, Cork, a field champion and amateur field champion, he won the “Double Header” twice and in 1991 finished second in the country in the National Amateur Championship Stake held in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Quanrud of Rochester; son, David Quanrud (Jean) of Tucson, Arizona, and twin brother Merlin (Muriel) of Osseo, Minnesota.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Myrtle Quanrud, and two brothers, Harry Jr. and Everett Quanrud.

Memorial service for Marvin Quanrud will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday April 6, 2018 at River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home in Rochester with Chaplain Nancy Toensing and Rev. Lester Horntvedt officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.

Condolences

The family of Marvin Quintin Quanrud has received the following condolences.

Our sincere condolences to the family of Marvin. Marv’s friendship was a true blessing and he will be sorely missed. We not only appreciated his amazing master craftsmanship, but more importantly benefited from his presence in our lives. I will especially cherish the memories of our countless hours “in the field” training dogs, hunting, or bird watching as we hiked the hills and valleys of southeast Minnesota. His gentle and kind nature was an inspiration to everyone in our family and we all know we are better for having known him.

Sincerely,

The Julsrud family
