Marvel Betts, 66, of Rochester, MN passed away Wednesday, September 5th surrounded by her family at St. Marys Hospital.
Marvel was born April 18, 1952 in Blue Earth, MN to Galen and Nancy (Thompson) Riess. She graduated from Rochester Mayo High School in 1970. On March 23, 1974, Marvel married Ronald Betts in Cresco, IA. They lived in Mankato, MN for several years before moving back to Rochester where Marvel worked as a telephone operator for nine years. In 1983, Marvel and Ronald started ServiceMaster Commercial Cleaning in Rochester which they continue to own and operate today.
Marvel loved to read and work on puzzles. She also would not miss an episode of “Days of Our Lives” soap opera. She adored her seven grandchildren, Lilly, Alana, Hailey, Ethon, Joseph, Brody, and Mackenzie Betts; her step granddaughter, Brandy Conway; and two step great-grandchildren. Marvel loved spending time with family whether it was on the boat fishing, four wheeling, or snowmobiling. Marvel liked playing cards and traveling.
Marvel is survived by her husband, Ronald; three sons, Chad (Michelle) Betts of Las Vegas, NV, Jason (Debra) Betts, and Arron (Katie) Betts of Rochester, MN; her mother, Nancy (Riess) & John Schmitz of Elgin; and her brother, Evan Riess of Dodge Center. She is preceded in death by her father, Galen Riess.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester with Pastor Jason Burggraff officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 10th in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
