Marlene R. McGuire

Marlene R. McGuire, age 78 of Rochester, passed away on October 26, 2010 at Samaritan Bethany Heights Nursing Home. Marlene R. Nelson was born on April 9, 1932 in Litchfield, MN. Following high school in Litchfield, she attended a year of nursing school at Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. On November 16, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, Lee McGuire at Trinity Episcopal Church, in Litchfield, MN.  After farming in Litchfield, the family lived in Redwood Falls, MN and Lake Mills, IA before settling in Rochester in 1970. Marlene worked as a secretary in real estate, a ward secretary at Methodist Hospital, and an administrative assistant at Olmsted Community Hospital before retiring in 1997. In 1999, Marlene suffered a stroke, and required long term medical care. In 2008, she moved into Samaritan Bethany Heights Nursing Home.  She is survived by her husband Lee of 59 years, two sons, Bill (Lois) and Tim (Tracy) McGuire of Rochester, a daughter, Deb (Mike) Squillace of Rochester, a sister, Audrey Pearson of Dassel, MN, and grandchildren, Mary McGuire of Burnsville, MN, Anne McGuire of Seattle, WA, Melanie Squillace of San Antonio, TX, Tim Squillace of Burnsville, and Quinn and Eli McGuire, both of Rochester. She is preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Nelson, and her parents.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 1:00pm at Calvary Episcopal Church of Rochester with Father Nicklas Mezacapa officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2010 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Macken Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials are preferred to Season’s Hospice.
