Marlene R. Love

On Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, Marlene Love was called home to be with the Lord for all eternity.

She was born Dec. 17, 1933, to Edwin and Esther Fernholz in Arcadia, Wis. She attended St. Aloysius Elementary School and Arcadia High School. After high school graduation, she graduated from Winona State University. Marlene taught school in Wayzata and in San Bernardino, Calif. In 1960, she and her husband moved to Rochester where she taught  at Ben Franklin and Washington Elementary schools from 1960 to 1993 when she retired.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Charles “Chuck” Love; sisters, Marge Tulius, LaVon Benusa and Rebecca Wood; brothers, Ed Fernholz and James Fernholz; nieces, nephews; and brothers-in-law.

A memoral service will be held to celebrate her life on Saturday January 18, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, with Chaplain David Byrne officiating. A Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Her body has been bequested to the Mayo Foundation.

Memorials may be sent to Ronald McDonald House, Channel One or charity of donor’s choice.

Marlene loved life, her family and friends, her students and, most of all, her loving husband, Chuck.

Condolences

The family of Marlene R. Love has received the following condolences.

We were so sorry to hear about Marlene.  We did not have the privilege of knowing her, but are certain she will be missed.

Maybe next summer we can get together on the golf course.  Until then, take care.  Ray and Mary Beard.

Marlene was our Jennie's 4th grade teacher at Ben Franklin.

Jennie, who is now a mother of four and a pediatrician, remembers Marlene fondly.

"She always gave us hugs and kisses. She was so nice."  Jennie said when I shared the news of Marlene's passing.

Those were wonderful days at Ben Franklin when teachers and students could give hugs

as genuine gestures of caring.  Thank you, Marlene, for giving our daughter such a good

start on her educational journey.  May you rest in peace.

Chuck, I want to send you my deepest sympathy at the death of Marlene. She was such a lovely lady and left her mark on young people everywhere. My son Joe had her for 5th grade and she was such a great inspiration to him. I haven't seen you in ages but enjoyed working with you at Daytons. Maybe we can visit some time. Cindy Laude
