Mark Kevin Kvittem

Mark Kevin “Water Weasel”  Kvittem, 62, of Rochester, MN passed Friday, December 1, 2023, following a lengthy illness, comfortably at home.

Mark was born November 21, 1961, in Rochester, MN to Josie (Helmin) and Jules Kvittem. He graduated from Mayo High School in 1980. On October 30, 1985 he married Diane Lynn Fasteen in Rochester, MN. The couple spent their married life living blissfully surrounded by a large family in Rochester. Mark worked hard for 40 years at KEMPS’s ice cream plant retiring as a production foreman.

Mark loved spending his time outdoors interacting with nature whether boating on the Mississippi river, camping with family and friends, or taking annual fishing trips with family. Mark and Diane took many memorable road trips together over the years. He was known as a quiet, calm guy and was loved for being an amazing father. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife, Diane or Rochester, his sons Cameron (Yelena) of Albuquerque, NM and Cooper of Winona, MN, his brothers Allen (Debra), Glenn (Deb), Earl (Deborah), sister Diane (Bill) Wassink, brother-in-law Joe Neumann, paternal aunt, Sylvia Viken and extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his son Kyle (1989) sister Sandy, and his parents.

The Memorials Service for Mark will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 11:00AM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, December 7, 2023 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm in the River Park Chapel along with one hour prior to the service.

Condolences

The family of Mark Kevin Kvittem has received the following condolences.

I worked side by side for many years with Mark at KEMPS.

He was a great guy to work with.

He'll be missed by everyone.

Thought and prayers go out to the family.

So sad to hear about Mark’s passing, I worked with him for over 30 yrs and knew him as a hard worker and a competent foreman at Kemps.  My condolences to his family.  ⚓️?

We loved our 15+ years boating with Kvittems.  Mark and Diane were so welcoming to us when we were first-time boat owners at Parkside Marina.  Mark the Water Weasel provided tips on how to successfully boat on the Mississippi and always saved us a spot at the best sandbar.  Dressing as pirates, partying at Oktoberfest, seeing the Little River Band in 100 degree weather, and hanging out with a great group of boaters are memories we cherish.  Mark was so strong in his cancer battle.  He will be missed by us and many.  Diane and family, our thoughts are with you, and we would love to see you again – come visit in Wabasha or we can meet in Rochester.

Words just can’t do justice to explain how sorry we are at the passing of Mark.  Mark was part of our close knit camping family on the corner.  Mark  was always happy to see you and his hugs were  amazing.  His humor and kindness was always a highlight of my weekends. He was like a brother to me  He often knew what to say, even if it was only a few words, when things weren’t always okay. It was enough to just hear “you okay ?”  I so loved being his partner in bags. He was funny and competitive and improved greatly and always gave folks crap but in a way that was humorous.  Playing dice and cards was funny too with his “ Come to daddy” and the Kvittem’s constant taking of our money.  I’ll miss him so very much.

Mark - we love you buddy.  It’s already not the same without you.  Watch out for your family.

Diiane and family - if there’s anything you need do not hesitate to ask. We love you!

Diane and family, We are sorry for your loss. Words are never enough to express our sympathy. Keeping you all in our prayers. Melissa and Todd Christensen

My deepest condolences to Mark's family. He was a great person and leader at the Kemps ice cream plant. It has been my pleasure to work with Mark the past 6 years. He has made a lasting impression on me in a short period of time and will be greatly missed. Mark was a mentor and was always willing to help no matter what the situation. Keep his memories close and believe he is in a better place without worry or pain.

I had the pleasure to work directly with Mark for the past 4 years at Rochester Ice Cream.  Mark was an amazing leader always putting the needs of his team ahead of his own.  My thoughts and prayers are with Diane and the family.

"As I reflect on the time I spent with Mark, I am reminded of the profound impact we can have on the people around us. The Mark I knew was a kind, compassionate, and empathetic person who always went out of his way to help others. He had a unique ability to make people feel seen and heard, and his mere presence was enough to brighten up anyone's day. Hearing of his passing brought back a flood of memories, and I couldn't help but feel grateful for the time we had spent together. It was a powerful reminder that the relationships we build and the kindness we show can have a lasting impact on those around us."

Diane & family, We are so sorry to hear about Mark's passing. We have great memories of your family on the 200 BOOM in Wabasha.  He was a such a nice guy & always smiling. Mark will live on in your hearts forever. Deepest sympathies.
