Mark E. Holland

Mark Edward Holland, 64, passed away with serenity and grace on February 11, 2021. He was surrounded by his loving family. Mark fought a 12 year battle and is now in the arms of Jesus, free from his suffering.

Mark was born in Detroit, MI. He graduated from the University of Michigan with an electrical engineering degree and went on to complete his Masters at the University of Minnesota. He worked at IBM for 28 years. Mark married the love of his life, Julie Bohlsen, in Fairmont, MN on July 12, 1980. He was a dedicated family man who loved watching Michigan football games and running marathons. He volunteered his time as an usher at St. Pius X, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and served on the board of Hiawatha Homes for many years.

Mark had a kind, gentle soul. He was the best husband, father, Papa, and friend one could ask for. He is survived by his wife, Julie; children, Ryan of Watertown, WI, Mitch (Janna) of Ramsey, MN, Lauren (Lucas) of Spring Valley, MN; brother, Scott (Karen) of Marlton, NJ; sister, Sharon of Flushing, MI; and five grandchildren, Donte, Deja, Lily, Liam, and Mila.

Mark was preceded in death by his twin sons; Trenton and Justin; father, John; mother, Mary Ann; step-mother, Evelynn; and step-sister, Sandy. The family would like to extend their thanks to the caregivers at Arbor Terrace and Seasons Hospice.

A visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 15, 2021 at St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.

Praying for your family in this time of sorrow.   I worked at IBM with Mark as we all started our careers and Julie was my roommate for a time.   Mark was a gentle soul who always had a beautiful smile and a twinkle in his eyes.   He made me memorize the Michigan fight song and I still remember it.   You all are in my thoughts.

Julie and family.  I don't know if you remember me, but I worked at IBM with Mark many, many years ago.  I am sorry for your loss.  Mark was always smiling and that made others smile.  I remember a few years ago when Bethel Lutheran church was doing either The Promise or The Miracle where I was directing the onstage choir and he came and talked to me for a bit.  It was nice to see him.

My prayers are with all family members at this time.  May he rest in peace.

Dear Julie....I am so sorry to hear of Mark's passing.  I remember his kind smile as I passed him in the IBM Hallways many times.  He was a wonderful family man and a kind soul and I'm sure will be remembered and loved by his family forever.  Love and prayers to you and your family.

We were blessed to have our brother-in-law Mark in our family. His love for his family, his kindness and quick smile will never be forgotten. We will all miss him, but rejoice that he is  now in God's loving embrace for eternity. He will always live on in our hearts!
