Margaret (Mimi) Pooler

Margaret Ann, (Mimi), Pooler of Rochester, MN, died Saturday, May 29, 2021, at Meadow Lakes Senior Living in Rochester.

Margaret Ann Gartner was born June 30, 1938, the daughter of Ludwig and Betty Gartner. She lived in Preston until 1956.

Margaret entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Rochester in 1957, receiving the name of Sister Mary Stacia. She taught school in Ironton, OH, and in Lake City, MN. She received training at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester to become an LPN, graduating in 1961. She took her final vows in 1962 and continued her time at St. Marys until 1965

Margaret married Glenn Pooler on September 17, 1966 in Minneapolis. Later, the couple moved to Rochester, where she worked for Cycle City from 1980 – 1989. She then began driving school buses for Strain’s/Laidlaw/First Student, and drove until retirement. Driving bus was Mimi’s love. She was featured many times in the Rochester Post-Bulletin as a kind and dedicated bus driver. Safety first!

Mimi loved being an outdoor person. In her younger days she rode horses, played softball, and made many trips to the boundary waters. She was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.  She also loved her cats, Smokey I and II, and Polly.

Mimi had many friends, enjoyed playing cards, and attending coffee parties, graduations, weddings, and family gatherings.  She loved children. Her warm heart and spunkiness will be missed.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Glenn; sister-in-law, Pat Gartner; brother-in-law, Tom Kokesh, and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Phyllis Kokesh; her brothers, Mike, Murph, and Lud, and her niece, Jennifer Gartner.

A visitation will be held from 12:00pm – 1:30pm followed by a prayer service on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at the River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston.
