Margaret Mary Mahoney – Rochester
Margaret Mary Mahoney, 94, of Rochester passed away Wednesday, December 17th, 2025, at Benedictine Living Community – Rochester Madonna Towers.
Margaret was born November 23rd, 1931, in Lake City, MN to Edward and Mary Rita (Cronin) Goihl. She attended a one room school in Laketown Township until 8th grade, then McCahill Institute (high school), where she graduated in 1949. After working in Lake City for a short time, she attended Rochester School of Practical Nursing at St. Marys Hospital, where she graduated in 1951. She then worked at St. Marys Hospital and the Mayo Clinc. On June 23rd, 1956, she married Hilary Mahoney at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City. They made their home in Rochester where they raised four children, Mary Kay, Colleen, Daniel, and Patricia. She continued her life caring for her family and home. She spent endless hours volunteering at St. Pius Church and Assisi Heights. Her greatest joy came from being a grandmother and great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers Paul, Bernard, and James. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Kay (Nick) Poleschuk, Colleen (Mike) O’Connell, and Patricia (Richard) Kuiper, all of Rochester, a son Daniel (Denise) Mahoney of Waconia, grandchildren Nick, Christie, Cheryl, Brian, Kevin, Matthew, Sean, Christopher, Jess, Mary Alice, Angie, and Patrick, and great grandchildren Emma, Declan, Maddox, Desmond, Oscar, Charlie, and Harper, and sister Eileen Glander of Lake City.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 2nd, at St. Pius Catholic Church in Rochester. Visitation will be held one hour prior. A lunch will be served, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lake City.
The family prefers memorials to Lourdes High School, St. Pius X Catholic Church, and Madonna Towers.

Dear Colleen and family,
I didn’t know your mom well, but I recall her always being in service to others at Saint Pius and Assisi Heights—school lunches, funerals—all occasions. She had a quiet presence, always with a kind smile and hello. I remember her very fondly.
You are in my thoughts and prayers as you celebrate the life of your wonderful mother.
