Margaret A Baker

Margaret Baker, of Rochester, MN, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025. Born at home on a farm near Lourdes on January 23, 1936, she was delivered by a neighbor and, like many of her generation, began her life without an official birth certificate. As an infant, she slept in a cardboard box or a dresser drawer, a humble beginning for a woman whose life would be defined by quiet strength and enduring love.

Following her father’s death, Margaret and her mother moved to several different farms before finding one with the modern conveniences of electricity and a phone line. She attended kindergarten through eighth grade in a one-room schoolhouse. After graduating from high school, she dedicated over 40 years of service to St. Marys Hospital.

In her life, Margaret found the love of her life, Ron. The two dated for two years before marrying and building a beautiful family together. Their union was a partnership built on affection and mutual respect. They raised a son, Ronald, and a daughter, Karma, instilling in them the values of hard work and compassion that had guided Margaret’s own life.

Some of Margaret’s favorite things included reading, watching old westerns, going to “The Island”, and spending time with her beloved family; especially her little “cuddle bug” Simon.

Margaret’s memory will be forever cherished by her children, Ronald Baker and Karma Shamblin. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Hannah (Lucas), Carter, Amanda (Ted) Wirtz; great grandchildren, Jayden, Ivy, and Simon. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Kay Baker, and many nieces and nephews, who were all touched by her kind and welcoming spirit.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronald, sister Gladys (Ray)Bieri, and brother Leland (Evelynn) Truka.

Her legacy of love, hard work, and kindness will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 13, 2025, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Condolences

The family of Margaret A Baker has received the following condolences.

I wanted to make this perfect, but that is not happening. I then realized Marge would not be worried about me making this perfect and since she knows me, she certainly would not expect it.

That made me smile, and chuckle.

That is what Marge did. She made you feel good just being around her. Her laugh, smile, personality just did that.

She then guided three more generations that have the same affect on you. The people you want to know because they just make you feel good.

I think that might make her smile. She raised generations of good people.

Y'all are going through a tough time, wish we could be there. When it gets tough, remember where you came from. The woman that could make us all smile. And right now cry a little. You know cry like a man of course.

Love you,

Trevor

Remembering Margaret and celebrating a life well lived.  She was a special aunt, great aunt AND great-great aunt to all of us.  I will always remember her fun personality and unique ability to make sure a birthday card reached us on the exact date!  Ron,Karma, Hannah and Simon- we are all thinking of you and keeping you in our hearts during this time! ❤️

Margaret was a wonderful lady, i had her for my supervisor in St. Marys Dietetics  department from the time I started in 1980 until she retired . she was always fair, but firm treating us all as equals. I know she will be sadly missed by so many of us that she worked with. My condolences to her family.

Our sympathies. Margaret was a Great Lady. Always enjoyed visiting with her and Gladys. Rest in Peace Margaret.
