Malinda S. Young

The funeral service for Malinda S. Young will be at 11:00am Friday, March 27, 2015 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Massaro officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, March 26, 2015 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one half hour prior to the service.

Malinda Young, 87, of Rochester, died peacefully Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Samaritan Bethany Home on 8th.

Malinda was born January 19, 1928 in Asheville, NC to Robert and Edna (Gilbert) Sigmon. She graduated from Lee Edwards High School in 1943 and attended St. Genevieve of the Pines College for two years. Malinda then went on to attend Women’s College of UNC located at Greensboro, NC. On December 28, 1947, Malinda married George Young at Kenilworth Presbyterian Church in Asheville, NC and moved to Raleigh, NC where George graduated from NC State and joined IBM. The couple lived in several locations before moving to Rochester, MN in 1967.

Malinda enjoyed bridge club, golfing, crocheting, reading and especially trips to Treasure Island. She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, George Young of Rochester, MN; daughter, Georgia (Daryl) Jensen of Rochester; son, Dan(Denise) Young of Chester, MN; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters.
