M. Joanne Hicks
M. Joanne (Slorby) Hicks 85, of Rochester, passed away April 17, 2012, at Saint Marys Hospital. She was born December 6, 1926, in Bismarck, ND to Calmer and Veva Slorby. Joanne and her late husband, Leon “Bud” Hicks, raised five children in Rochester.
Joanne earned her degree from Rochester Junior College in 1946 and worked at the Mayo Clinic for 37 years as a medical secretary, mainly in the Ears, Nose and Throat Department. Joanne enjoyed swimming daily, spending time with her fellow members of the Red Hat Society, knitting, crocheting, and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Donald (Darlene) of Jaspar, Indiana, Mike (Rosemary), Tom (Ruth) of Rochester, MN, Steve (Gwen) of Captain Cook, Hawaii and Leanne (Mrs. Andrew Buell) of Silver Bay, MN; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband (Bud), her infant son, Scott, and her sisters Elvera, Neola, Rosemary, and Patricia.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, April 21 at 10:30AM at The River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul E. Nelson officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, April 20 at The River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home from 5:00PM to 8:00PM and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
