Lyle Joseph Yokiel
Lyle Joseph Yokiel, 72, of Rochester, passed away October 2, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital.
A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, October 9 at 10:00AM at Resurrection Catholic Church, 1600 11th Avenue SE with the Rev. Peter Schuster officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery – Preston. Military Rites will be provided after the funeral Mass by the American Legion Post 92.
Lyle was born October 29, 1943 in Albert Lea to Martin and Ann (Klocek) Yokiel. He was raised on the family farm in Wells. He graduated in 1961 from Wells High School.
Lyle joined the Army in September of 1962 where he served one year stateside and two years overseas. He was honorably discharged in September of 1965. After service he returned to his home for one year then moved to Rochester. Lyle married Barbara LaVan on July 20, 1968 in Mazeppa, MN. In 1967, he started working as a welder in the Rochester area and retired in 2006.
Lyle was an avid hunter for deer and waterfowl. He loved watching sports and gardening in his spare time. He liked to share his produce with family, friends and neighbors. In the past, he coached youth football, t-ball, softball, and baseball. He enjoyed and loved very much his three Labrador retrievers, Tuffy, Lucky, and Buddy. Lyle was the proud owner of a 1969 Dodge Coronet 440 that he bought brand new in 1969 and took very good care of. Lyle belonged to the American Legion Post 210 in Wells for 50 years as well as Post 92 in Rochester. He was also a member of the UAW 2125.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara; and his loving children, Doug Yokiel, of Rochester, daughter Lisa (Jason) Day, of Rochester; his sisters, Rose Lenort, and Bernie (Ray) Smothers, both of Mankato. He is preceded in death by his parents.
