Lyall L. Wegner

Lyall L. Wegner of Rochester passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at Saint Marys Hospital.

Lyall Lansford Wegner was born November 23, 1929 in rural Hammond, Minnesota, the son of Earl and Louise (Wilde) Wegner.  He graduated from Rochester High School, and then served in the Air Force including duty overseas in the Philippines during the Korean War.

On September 16, 1951 he married Adeline G. Barr.  He joined Northwestern Bell Telephone in January 1953, and retired from AT & T in 1986.  He was then a partner in G & S Telephone for several years.

Lyall loved visiting with his grandchildren.  He also enjoyed carpentry, hunting, car trips and sports, especially baseball.  Survivors include his wife; two sons, Thomas B. (Nancy) of Rochester, Jon L. (Doris) of West Fargo, ND; one daughter, Sue E. Madden of Rochester; seven grandsons, one granddaughter and two great grandchildren, two brothers; Ellsworth of Walker, MO, and Wayne (Phyllis) of Pine Island; four sisters, June Vagt of Mazeppa, Phyllis Komisar of Simi Valley, CA, Bernadine (Donald) Duncan of Wabasha and Joyce McCormack of Rochester.  An infant brother and sister preceded him in death along with one sister, Kathyrn Anwiler.

There will be a private family funeral held at the Macken Funeral Home.  On-line condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com

Condolences

The family of Lyall L. Wegner has received the following condolences.

Condolences from Pinewood Road SE neighbors of long ago.

Family of Lyall Wegner

You have my sincere sympathy for the loss of Lyall. I worked with Lyall at NW Bell in Rochester and also played softball with him on our company team. He was a person that you enjoyed being around and a "good guy."

Take care!

Jerry Dashow

MY husband was a good friend and played baseball with Lyall..I know you will miss him.

My sincerest sympathies.

Jane (Wimpy) Smith

Lyall will be missed at Point of View.  We especially enjoyed his dry sense of humor and observations.  When we moved in 6 years ago Lyall had been the on-site handyman.  Due to health reasons he couldn't continue so I took over.  The only problem being I am best described as an "unhandyman".  Lyall gave me lots of directions and kept me the ball.  Adeline, you will have to take over the "keeping me on the ball" duty.

Prayers are lifted to your entire family during this difficult time - the loss of a fine man who was a father, brother, husband and grandfather.

With deepest sympathy.

Tom and Nancy. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Please accept our sympathies in this time of your loss. Your dad sounds like he was a wonderful person.

Hope the happy memories, friends and family give you comfort at this sad time.

wishing you Love, Prayers and Peace

So sorry to learn of the passing of Lyall. I lost contact with you all when I moved from Hammond. I remember Lyall as the home run hitter on the Hammond baseball team back in the late forties, early fifties. From what I knew of Lyall, he was always a gentleman. I knew Wayne much better as he was always scaring the devil out of me, when my brother Wayne and I went down to hang out with him. We lived up the road just a short distance from the Wegner farm.

My prayers are with your family during this difficult time.

I was a telephone operator at St. Mary's and had the pleasure of seeing Lyall's smiling face every day. He always had a kind word, silly joke or something to make us smile every day.  I will forever cherish his friendship and my heart goes out to his family. I'm sure that he was loved and will be missed very much. With deepest sympathy....Sincerely,    Tammy House

Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you. So sorry for your loss.

My prayers are with your family during these difficult times. xo Earnhart family

We were sorry to learn of the death of Tom's father and Nancy's father-in-law Lyall Wegner.  Lyall served his country and raised a family after growing up in the depths of the Great Depression.  We hope that all the members of his family and all of his friends take comfort in the happy times they shared with Lyall.  We will remember all of you in our thoughts and prayers.  Rest in peace Lyall and thank you for your service and for making the world a better place for all of us.

Dennis, Mary & John Bitz

Sorry for your loss, your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
