Luz Margarita Ramirez Perez

The funeral for Luz Margarita Ramirez Perez will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 10:00AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (1002 16th Street SE, Rochester, MN) with Bishop Wayne Woolley officiating.  The burial will take place at a later date in Mexico.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00PM on Friday, November 30, 2012 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home.

Mrs. Luz Margarita Ramirez, 56, was born in Cocula, Jalisco, Mexico on April 20, 1956.  She died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at her residence in Rochester, Minnesota.  She was married to Jose Luis Garcia Pelayo, mother of four children, Erwin Josue Garcia Ramirez, Luis Fernando Garcia Ramirez, Deisy Anali Garcia Ramirez and Estefany Margarita Garcia Ramirez.

Luz Margarita lived most of her life in Cuautla, Jalisco.  She started teaching at the age of fourteen years old and served public schools for thirty years.  Luz was an Elementary and Middle school teacher as well as a Principal.  She illuminated many generations with her knowledge about love, life, patience, respect, courage, tolerance, kindness, and forgiveness.  Her beautiful example of life remains constant in every single mind and hearts.  Luz Margarita became the first female Mayor of her city.  She was considered one of the most important mayors in the town’s history because of her unique achievements.  One of her biggest accomplishments was to bring available drinking water for the entire community.  Luz always used as an example Mother Teresa with her significant quote, “Give, but give until it hurts.”  She was the living example of strength after fighting against ovarian cancer for almost five years.  Luz Margarita left her legacy in her four children, which she always described as her biggest inspiration and motivation.  Luz Margarita and he four children came to Rochester in 2007 with the aspiration of having her family together.  After being diagnosed in 2008, she never left the strength and courage to keep fighting to live.  She took enthusiasm in her hands and started to take classes at Hawthorne School, learning English as her second language.

For me this means the loss not just of a family member, a mother or an aunt. It represents the loss of someone who always played a leading role within our family, bringing her unconditional love to her children, advice to her brothers and sisters, wisdom to her students, a great example and many great memories to many more whom had the opportunity to meet her.

She will be always remembered as the wise, intelligent and warm hearted person she always was. And she will live in our hearts with all the good memories and the example she left to us.

Rest in peace, our greatly missed.

You have my deepest sympathy.  After knowing Luz for a short time, I was fortunate to get to know her and the amazing woman she was.  She touched many people at Hawthorne Education Center with her kindness, wisdom and determination.  She will be greatly missed
