Lugene (Tris) Daly of Rochester, age 95, died on August 30, 2024, at Madonna Towers. Tris was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Delia and Charles Trisler, on January 31st, 1929. Twelve years later her sister Sandra was welcomed into the family. Prior to moving to Rochester in 1944, Tris lived in Minneapolis and Duluth. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1947 and in 1949 she graduated from Rochester Junior College where she earned an associate degree in the Medical Secretary program.
On July 22nd, 1950, she married Joseph Jr. Richard Daly at St John’s Catholic Church. She then worked at the Mayo Clinic from 1949 to 1953 when her first child was born. Later, when most of her children had finished high school, she worked at the St. Mary’s Hospital staff library. In 1994, after working at St Mary’s Hospital for 13 years, she retired.
Tris enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, biking, golfing, traveling, entertaining and assembling photo albums for each of her eight children. Joe and Tris were blessed to have taken many trips around the United States with her family and friends. One outstanding family trip was a month-long trip to California in a motor home with all the children and Grandma and Grampa Daly, Almina and Joseph Sr. Two other memorable trips were to Europe with another couple and to Ireland with three of their children.
During retirement, Tris and Joe were also fortunate to have wintered in Arizona with many of their Minnesota friends and summer vacations with family and friends at Silver Sands Lake Resort in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota.
Tris and Joe were charter members of St. Pius X Catholic Church where they were active in several ministries. They also volunteered together delivering meals on wheels. Tris was a volunteer at the Caritas Book and Gift Shop and the St Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary. Tris was also a girl scout leader and den mother.
Tris is survived by two daughters Maureen (Molly) (Steve) Nierman of Rochester, MN and Colleen Daly of Milwaukee, WI, daughter-in-law, Jill Daly of Rochester, MN; five sons Michael (Sue Toffenetti) Daly of Excelsior, MN, Mark Daly of Woodbury, MN, Patrick Daly of Ft Myers, FL, John Daly of Port St Lucie, FL, and Rick Daly of St Paul, MN. Condolences
The family of Lugene “Tris” Daly has received the following condolences.
I was so very lucky to get to know Tris and Joe through my husband David Jewison. God bless them and their family.
Dear Daly Cousins,
I remember in high school Mike’s parents calling your Mom “ Tris” and I thought who is this Tris? My parents always called her Lugene. ( took me awhile to realize she was the same person!)
What a wonderful full life your Mom had. She was such a sweet woman. When I’d see her at Madonna, she was so positive and sharp- talk about aging gracefully.
I know it’s tough losing these special people from a great generation. Take comfort to know she is now enjoying eternal life with those she’s been waiting to see.
Blessings on Lugene!
Elissa and Mike
Dear Mark, Molly and entire Daly family,
Sending our condolences to you all as you say your goodbye to your Mom. You are lucky to have had her in your lives for so many years filled with many memories. We are sending healing hugs as we aren’t able to be there.
Dan and Rita Marquardt
To all my cousins,
I am very sorry for your loss. Your mother was such an amazing person and I know she was cherished by you all. I am so glad you were all able to celebrate her 95th birthday in Jan. I am extremely thankful that I was able to have your mother as my aunt. I truly appreciated her always staying connected to our family out here in Portland. I admired her so much and I hope I was able to convey that to her over the years.
My family and I will be keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers. I wish I was able to be there for you all!
Love you, Molly Cruz and Family
My deepest condolences to your family for your loss. Sending prayers for healing and comfort during this difficult time. I hope your happy memories will bring you comfort in a life well lived.
My sympathy on the passing of your mother. I only had the pleasure of meeting her a few times but I was so glad I did. My mother and yours worked together at the Mayo Clinic and she liked your mothers name so well she named me Lugene. I will always remember her fondly.
Thinking of you Mike and Sue. Your family was lucky to have your mom so long. Celebrate all your fond memories. Sending love and prayers during this difficult time. Love Carla and Mike
Dear Daly Family,
It was such a blessing for me to get to know Tris when I worked in the Spiritual Care Department at Madonna Towers! Tris was a faith-filled, kind, gentle, compassionate person! I can imagine Joe’s delight (and big smile) at welcoming Tris into the Kingdom of God! May all of your family be blessed with peace and loving memories! May Tris now rest in peace with the God she loved so much. Sister Sue Reif, OSF (Assisi Heights)

Daly Family,
When I sent my siblings a note to tell them that sweet Tris had passed away, these were the sentiments they replied with,
She was a joy, such a sweet lady, what a good friend, Wow! A life well lived.
We all have such great memories of our times with the Dalys.
Love and comfort to you all,
Cathy
