Lucas William Hanson – Stewartville, MN
Lucas, 4, of Stewartville, MN passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at his home.
Lucas, or Luke, was born October 14, 2021, at 10:02am at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. He lived in Rochester, MN for his first three years, before moving to Stewartville, MN in 2024. Luke attended preschool at Rochester Catholic School – St. Pius X and was the member of the 3K class.
Luke loved learning, helping, and making friends. His favorite color was red, and would let you know that only, “red makes red.” Luke always was on the move, especially outdoors, his favorite activities including fishing, going to the park, hiking, playing baseball, riding his balance bike, playing in the snow, swimming in a pool or lake, and many other activities. He’d even critique people at the boat launch on their backing up skills. If Luke could not be outdoors, he loved baking, crafting, and reading. He also loved anything Paw Patrol related, Chase being his favorite. Lucas looked for the moon every night/day and loved seeing the Northern Lights over the last couple years. He searched for rainbows wherever possible and always pointed out the corn cob water tower in Rochester. Most of all, he loved spreading joy by making people smile and laugh.
He is survived by his parents, Zachary and Johanna Hanson of Stewartville, MN; his paternal grandparents Jeffrey (Pops) and Susan (Gramzy) Hanson of Rochester, MN; his maternal grandparents James (Pa) and Jeanne (Ma) Pearce of Ashland, WI; five uncles/aunts; and numerous cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. The family is asking for those attending to wear red in some way to honor Luke.
The family requests that memorial gifts be designated to Zollman Zoo at Oxbow Park.

Condolences
The family of Lucas William Hanson has received the following condolences.
My heart and deep prayer are for you.
I substitute taught in Zach's class on the Friday, December 19th and just found out about your dear Luke through Lise Paulik (George, the Chess club leader, is her husband).
I recall looking at Luke's cute photo in your desk area thinking what a bundle of energy and joy-- looking like his Dad-- he was in this photo!
My niece died suddenly (at 15 years old), and this has always been a deep pain for our family. Her life is part of why I enjoy substitute teaching at Lourdes.
May Luke, now in Heaven, bring God's comfort to you and live in your lives forever.
In the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
Marie

Dear JoHanna
I was so shocked and sad that you lost your precious son Lucas at a young and tender age.
When my mother lost her oldest son, my oldest brother, I felt her deep pain and grief.
I hope and pray you be comforted by the love of God with hope that someday you and Luca meet again in heaven.
I believe this life is a part of our eternal life where we establish eternal relationships like you and Lucas that last forever.
I am sure Lucas will be watching over you and be with you throughout your earthy life.
May God the Father bless you and your family with grace and love!
God be with you till you and Lucas meet again!
Best regards,
Bruce
We are just one of many St. Pius X School community families praying for you and your precious boy. There are no words to express how deeply sorry we are. We hope you feel the school community’s love and support. You are on our minds and in our hearts.
I can’t find the words to convey how sorry we are for the loss of Luke. We lived across the street from Pops and Grammy for years . Many times we saw them outside with Luke. He brought them such joy. May his memory be a reminder of that and all the love he brought the world. We are all in our thoughts and prayers.
Our prayers are with your family in this very sad time.
My name is Domi and I am one of St. Pius X. Student’s parent, I was deeply saddened to hear of your loss. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. May you find comfort in the loving memories you shared and strength in the support of those who care about you. My thoughts are with you and your family, is not easy to lose a little angel like Lucas. I don’t know him personally or your family but it hurts a lot to hear about his passing. I’m praying for your family 🙏🙏🙏🙏 may his precious soul rest in heaven🙏🙏🙏

To the Hanson families I am so sorry for your loss and can't stop thinking about all of you at this difficult time. I am keeping all of you in my prayers to find peace at this sad time.
There are a lot of stories to tell about the short time I knew Lucas. I had asked him one of the first days of this school year what his favorite color is. Lucas said without hesitation, it’s red. Whenever I was around him and he saw the color red he would always get excited. Something I’ll miss about him is Lucas’s contagious smile.
On behalf of the Radke Family and Byron Wrestling Family, our thoughts and prayers go out to the Luke Hanson family. No words can ever heal your loss but know many people have you in their hearts during this difficult time. Sending love and prayers your way.

JoHanna & Zach,
I can't even imagine the heartbreak you are feeling with the loss of your beloved little man. I am so sorry for your loss. Even though I never actually met your little guy, I heard enough about him to know that he was amazing. My heart goes out to you both.

Lucas was such a joy to be around and brought a smile to everyone around him. His carefree personality was so refreshing and reminded me to not take life so serious. My grandkids enjoyed playing with their friend Luke when out on adventures together. Your heart and love go out to you and your family.
Lucas is Chase and I’m Zuma. We don’t like the bad guys! Lucas is always nice to me and doesn’t get in trouble.
Hanson Family,
I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your sweet Luke. Some mornings, I would see him at before-school care, and he would proudly show me his Lego creations. As the pre-K teacher, it was a gift to get to know him in those small but meaningful moments. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. May God hold you close and know that the RCS community is with you during this time.
I'm so sorry to hear of your son's passing, I know he will be missed by all that knew and loved him. My prayers for you and your family.
I'm so terribly sorry to hear about Luke. I am thinking about you and praying for your family.

To Zach, JoHanna, and all of Luke's extended family:
Please know of our prayers, love, and support from St. Pius X School. Luke has left an indelible imprint on all of our hearts and the kind, capable boy he grew into is a credit to the wonderful family who formed him. Thank you for the blessing of sharing Luke with all of us. As he now walks with Christ in Heaven, we take solace in the fact that Luke moves forward with our Savior in eternal life.
Dave Jenson
Zach and Johanna, our hearts are heavy for you. We are praying for you endlessly.

Dear God,
You placed this child in my classroom and in my care,
and for that gift, I thank You.
I loved them in the small moments—
the laughter, the learning, the simple everyday joys.
Now my heart aches with their absence.
I do not understand why such little lives leave us so soon,
but I trust that You welcomed this child
with the same love You ask us to show here on earth.
Please hold them close, where there is no fear or pain,
only peace, warmth, and endless love.
Wrap Your arms around their family, Lord.
Give them comfort when words fall short
and strength for each moment they must face.
Help me, as their teacher, to honor this child’s memory
with gentleness, patience, and love for the children still in my care.
When my classroom feels quieter and my heart feels heavier,
remind me that Your presence remains.
Carry us through this grief,
and let Your peace rest upon us all.
Amen
Lucas, JoHanna, and Zach, please know that I will never forget the amazing, warm, and loving child I was blessed to teach, love, and watch grow. You touched my heart and every childs' in our classroom. I am so proud of the young man I saw change right before my eyes. You will be with us everyday, in everything we do, and every Danny Go we dance to. All my love - Ms Korte
