Lilia G. Guelas

Lilia G. Guelas, 85, of Rochester, MN, died Sunday, May 24, 2020 at home.

Lilia was born March 5, 1935 in Bulan, Sorsogan, Philippines to Olympio and Lucila Gayola. Lilia grew up and did her schooling in the Philippines. In 1958, Lilia married Romeo H. Guelas.  The couple lived in Bulan until they immigrated to the United States in 1990.  The couple lived in California until they moved to Rochester, MN in 1999 which became their lifelong home. In the Philippines Lilia was a dressmaker and housewife while raising nine children.  In the US Lilia worked at Textile Care Services until she retired.

Lilia loved to sew and make clothes for her family and friends.  She especially liked to attend parties and social functions.  She enjoyed going out to eat at various places, and liked to go on long drives to sight-see. Lilia was a natural caretaker and enjoyed the company of her grandchildren. Lilia was selfless and worked hard to take care of the ones she loved, especially her children who were still in the Philippines.

Lilia is survived by her six daughters, Merley LaFavor, Myra Guelas, Mercedita Begin, Analiza Benitez, Brigilda Barrameda, Laarni Lasala; two sons, Ulysis Guelas, Alberto Guelas; thirty grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Romeo; one son, Valeriano Guelas; one grandson, Jan Jan Guelas; and one granddaughter, Melissa Gisselberg.

A private family service will be held.
