Liangyu “Liang” Huang

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Liang Huang, died on November 29, 2017, at Madonna Meadows Assisted Living, Rochester, MN. Liang was cremated at Macken Funeral Home; she will eventually be buried next to her husband in her hometown in China. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the chapel of Madonna Meadows on Saturday, December 9, from 1-3 pm.

Liang was born in Jingzhou, Hubei Province, China in 1944 while China was invaded by Japanese in World War II. She was the first child of Yuan Huang and Yu Zhang, who owned a small restaurant. In her childhood, she helped her parents with the family business and took care of her younger brother. Liang graduated from No. 6 Junior High School in Shashi. She enjoyed a lot of school activities; she was an active player in the basketball team. She married Guangnie Yin, who was serving for the Air Force in China as a pilot during the Culture Revolution period. She travelled to several places in northeastern China as her husband’s air force base relocated. Liang worked as a clerk for the Grain Company in China until her early retirement. Liang’s husband died of cancer in 1993 in his early fifties. After several years of long mourning, Liang came to United States and lived with her daughter’s family. Over the years, traveling to many places in US via family vacations and helping to raise her grandchildren allowed Liang to gain a new purpose of life and a renewed sense of joy. Liang was diagnosed with the Parkinson Disease in 2006. She battled with the disease with grace and courage, and tried her best to live a quality life in her last few years. In the spring of 2015, Liang moved to Madonna Meadows and lived there with great care and support until she passed away.

Liang is survived by her daughter, Jun Yin of Rochester, MN and her husband, two granddaughters, Jadelynn and Iris; her son, Bing Yin and her younger brother, Zhong Huang who both reside in China. She is preceded in death by her husband.

Liang enjoyed knitting, cooking, hiking, and reading, especially books about history and biographies. Reading became her major activity when she was confined by Parkinson Disease in her last few years. Liang was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and a grandmother; an ordinary person with a kind heart. She will be missed deeply by her family, friends and people who know her.

Memorial contributions may be made to Madonna Meadows Assisted Living, Rochester, MN.
