Lester Lyle Jobe

Lester Lyle Jobe, age 84 of Rochester was welcomed into paradise with Jesus on September 7, 2011. He passed away peacefully at home due to complications from diabetes.

Lester was born on July 6, 1927 near Otsico (Waseca County) to Arno and Clara Jobe.  He served in the Navy during WWII when he was just 17 years old. He later spent two years in the Army, working as a medic in a Frankfurt Germany hospital during the Korean Conflict. On October 15, 1950, he married the love of his life, Marjorie Jean Riddle, in Owatonna. They enjoyed over 60 wonderful years together.

Les worked in the Maintenance Department at St. Mary’s Hospital for 33 years, retiring in 1993. He was known for his uncanny ability to fix anything. Les enjoyed family activities, fishing, camping, golfing, bowling, playing cards, and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He was active in the Boys Scouts, and was instrumental in both of his sons attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

Les will always be remembered for his gentleness, kindness, and his willingness to help anyone in need. He had a deep, abiding faith in God and held numerous positions at Redeemer Lutheran Church. He remained courageous and strong in spirit his entire life, even when faced with numerous medical challenges. The entire Jobe family extends a sincere “thank-you” to Seasons Hospice of Rochester for the high level of care Les received near the end of this life.

Lester is survived by his wife, Marge of Rochester; sons Dr. Lyle (Ingrid) of Harrisburg, PA. and Larry of Rush City, MN; brothers Norris (Lorraine) Jobe of Waterville and Harvey Jobe of Waseca; sisters Nora Schoenfeld of Waseca and Shirley (Marvin) Schwardt of Alexandria; grandsons Jason and Justin Jobe of Harrisburg, PA; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Walter and Clarence Jobe, and sisters Viola Jobe and Edna Mork.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Redeemer Lutheran Church of Rochester with the Rev. James Heining officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00PM to 8:00PM on Friday, September 16, 2011 at the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at Redeemer Lutheran. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Condolences

The family of Lester Lyle Jobe has received the following condolences.

My deepest sympathy to Marge, Lyle, Larry and the entire Jobe family at this most difficult time.

I have many memories of the good times we shared through so many years.  It began through the friendship of my late wife Pat, and Marge from their school days in Owatonna.  It blossomed into many wonderful times together both in Owatonna and in Rochester.

May the entire family as well as all his friends take solace in the realization that Lester has surely been one of God's children all of his life and has now entered eternal rest in his heavenly home.

I am so sorry for your loss.  May "the God of all comfort" (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) comfort and soothe your heart.  His promises, found in the Holy Scriptures, can offer much hope.  It assures us at John 5:28,29 that our loved ones will be remembered and brought back to life in the resurrection.  Please allow God's Word to strengthen you and help you to endure this most difficult time.

Dear Marge, Lyle and Larry, and family,

We were so sorry to hear about Uncle Lester's passing. Bill tells me that when he was a young boy, Uncle Lester lived with him and his family on the farm. Uncle Lester was instrumental at getting Bill and Harvey Junior out of the burning house. They had a chimmey fire and the house burned quickly. Lester got them out using a ladder to the second floor. We remember Uncle Lester as a very kind and gentle man. We hope you and your family have many fond memories that will help you get through this difficult time.

Although we cannot be with you in person at Uncle Lester's funeral, please know that we will be with you in thought and prayer.

Love,

Bill and Lyn Jobe

Dear Aunt Marge and family,

I was very sorry to hear of Uncle Lester's passing.  From a little girl on, I always enjoyed talking with Uncle Lester who also served as my baptism sponsor.  I remember playing with Lyle and Larry, they always had such great toys, were encouraged academically, it made an impression on me.

I wish we could be there to join you at the funeral.  We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

God Bless, Love, JoAnn
