Leroy “Roy” Malden Petterson – Havre, MT
Dr. L.M. Petterson, 88, of Rochester, MN, formerly of Havre, MT, died Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at his residence. Roy was born on November 10, 1931 in Baker, ND to Henry and Elizabeth (Ehnert) Petterson.
He graduated from Augsburg College in 1953 and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1958. Later that year he married Janet “Jan” Kragness at the First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, WI. Shortly thereafter, he and Jan moved to Havre, where they resided for 59 years. Dr. Petterson opened his dental practice in Havre on 3rd Street, later moving the office to 4th Street, where he remained in practice until he retired in 1996.
Survivors include his wife Janet of Rochester, MN, daughters Tanya (Scott) of Rochester, MN and Lisa (Ed) of Portland, OR, son Krag (Tracy) of Tualatin, OR, sister Linda Arpin of Denver, CO, four grandsons and one great-granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his sisters Maxine and Billie Jo “BJ”, his parents, stepmother Trena, and his aunt Emma (Bill) Everson.
Roy loved everything related to the outdoors, especially climbing in Glacier Park, hiking, canoeing, cross country skiing in the Bears Paw Mountains, photography, and traveling to new places.
The Memorial Service for Dr. Petterson will be at 12:00 pm on Monday, December 30, 2019 at Zumbro Lutheran Church with Pastor Vern Christopherson officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery of Havre, MT at a later date. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are preferred to The Nature Conservancy.

The family of Leroy “Roy” Malden Petterson has received the following condolences.
Roy was a part of our mens group at first Lutheran in Havre. I learned a lot from him and enjoyed his presence in our group. We grew to be friends and considered him a good friend and always looked forward to his and Jan's return to Havre. You will be missed but thought of often Roy.
A donation of $170 has been made to The Nature Conservancy in Montana to honor the memory of Roy Petterson. Tanya's friends and colleagues at Mayo Clinic share our condolences. We send God's blessings to Tanya and her family during this difficult time.
Dr. Petterson was my dentist prior to his retirement. The only dentist I enjoyed. Could actually go to sleep in his chair. Mr Petterson was a nurse at the hospital where I took my nurse’s training. A great lady and nurse. Together they made a great couple. Thank them both for being there when they were needed. Condolences to the family.
