Leon Alvin Vagt

A funeral service for Leon Alvin Vagt will be at 11:00am Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Macken Funeral Home, with Rev. Bruce Buller officiating.  A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00p.m. Monday at Macken Funeral Home and one half hour prior to the service on Tuesday.  Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Vagt, 81, of Rochester, MN died Thursday, May 13, 2010 of natural causes at his residence.  Leon was born on April 15, 1929 in Grand Meadow, MN to Anne and Alfred Vagt.  He attended Stewartville High School where he participated in track, baseball and the swim team.  Leon married Violet L. Long on March 19, 1948 in Rochester, MN.  Leon worked for Witte Transport, Dornacks Plumming and Heating until retirement in 1991.

Leon enjoyed watching sports, reading, fishing and gardening.  He liked spending time with friends and family around the fire pit and was often referred to as ‘Grandpa’ by the many neighborhood children.

He is survived by his children; Elena Henderson of Rochester, MN, Toni (Jim) Maher of Apex, NC, LeRae (Willie) Schneider of Rochester, MN, Rick (Becky) Vagt of Rochester, MN and Alan Vagt of Rochester, MN; brother, James (Ronna) Vagt of Oronoco, MN, 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Leon is preceded in death his parents, sister, Shirley Buske, son-inlaw and Rick Henderson.

The family requests no memorials, but in remembrance of Leon, please plant a tree, shrub or flowers, go fishing or spend time with your family.
