LaVonne K. Bowman
LaVonne Katherine Bowman, 91, of Rochester, MN, passed away Monday, September 9th, 2013 at Golden Living Center East.
LaVonne was born July 5th 1922, in Mantorville, MN to Anna and Vern Day. She graduated from Central high school in 1940. During World War II, she served in the USO club as a “magazine girl” in support of our troops.
She married Don Bowman on June 7th, 1947 at St. Johns Catholic Church. They raised three boys and ran several Rochester businesses including Bowman Wholesale and Bowman Lock and Key. LaVonne was always beside “her man” helping in anyway she could. LaVonne and Don had many friends. They took fishing trips up north in their early years as a married couple, loved spending time on the river at Bass Camp, and enjoyed wintering in Fort Myers, FL.
LaVonne enjoyed reading, bird watching, and finding seashells on the shores of Sanibel Island, FL. Whenever anyone visited her, they always left with a “little something”. You never knew what you were going to get. She had a good heart and always made you feel special. LaVonne’s spitfire personality and loving spirit will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
LaVonne is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Bowman; and one brother, Jack Day.
She is survived by three sons, Bill (Mary) Bowman of Rochester, MN, Jerry Bowman of Deerwood, MN and Mavis Bowman of Rochester, MN, and Joe (Cindy) Bowman of Rochester, MN; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers Dewey (Pat) Day of Rochester, MN, and Dick (Janet) Day of Owatonna, MN; and two sisters Lorraine Kohler of Pompano Beach, FL and Penny Mohn Rosenblad of Rochester, MN.
Special thanks to Betty Ringeisen who provided friendship and care to LaVonne over the past 7 years. Betty’s love and companionship meant the world to LaVonne and her family. She is truly a blessing to every life she touches.
The funeral mass for LaVonne Katherine Bowman will be at 10:30AM, Thursday, September 12, 2013 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Rev. Charlie I. Collins officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 5:00PM – 8:00PM at the River Park Chapel Macken Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Joe and Cindy: Know that we are remembering your family in our thoughts and prayers. There certainly has been too much sadness in our lives these past few days and I know there are better days ahead. Take care.
Very sorry for your loss, she looks beautiful in this picture, she also looks like she lived a full and happy life. Thinking of you in your time of loss. Love and hugs...
I have so many wonderful memories of you, you always had that smile and that hug that made me feel special. I remember in my 20's when we came home from a camping trip and you had warm brownies for all of us. We dumped our cooler in your lawn and you thought we should save that 'good' ice. I'm sure Don has a martini ready for you (and it won't be watered down)! Rest in Peace, beautiful lady.
I have a " little something" from Lavonne that she gave me years ago. It is a big clam shell probably from one of her trips to Sanibel. It is filled with pretty smelling soaps and sits in my bathroom where I see it everyday. I will think of her often and smile! :)
