Larry Ray Smith

The funeral service for Larry Smith will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Assembly of God in Rochester, with the Pastor Jim Filbeck officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

Larry Ray Smith “Little Smitty”, 66, of Rochester, passed away at Seasons Hospice House on Friday, September 13, 2013 after a 3 1/2 year battle with cancer.

Larry was born on January 31, 1947 in Austin, Minnesota to Laurence (Smitty) of Saint Charles and Gladys (Nesbit) of Utica.  Larry grew up in Zumbrota, Minnesota where he attended Zumbrota High School.  He played football, basketball and baseball.  After high school, Larry attended Rochester Junior College where he played basketball.  After one year of college, Larry joined the United States Air Force.  After serving four years, Larry went to work for Northwest Airlines.  He left Northwest Airlines to work at IBM and Schmidt Printing.  After retiring, Larry worked part-time at Walmart North.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; step-son, Scott (Jennie) Biers; grandchildren, Amya, Alexander, and Amelia of Chatfield; sister, Teri (Steve) Paulson of Zumbrota; niece, Mindi (Nate) Arendt; great-nieces, Makayla and Jakalyn; great-nephews, Zakary and Bakster of Mazeppa; nephew, Trevor (Stacey) Paulson of Waconia, MN and great-nieces, Tessa and Kora.

Larry loved to hunt, golf and fish; especially ice fishing with his cousin Kirk.
