Larry Allen Goedhart

Larry Allen Goedhart, 57, of Rochester, Minn., died on Monday, June 18, 2012.

Larry was born on September 18, 1954, in Orange City, Iowa, to Gerard and Margaret Goedhart. He grew up in Hospers, Iowa, and later met and married his wife, Mary, on March 25,1978.

Larry worked for Econofoods in Rochester since 1987, and most recently as a produce manager at the store in Cannon Falls. He was a gentle man and a true spiritual leader who enjoyed his family. In addition to being an amazing husband and dad, Larry was very active in his church, facilitated group Bible studies, volunteered for CareFest, and served as a bus driver for Schaeffer Academy.

Larry is preceded in death by his mother and father. Survivors include his wife, Mary Goedhart; his children, Allison, Jared, Kamaria and Zack; and siblings, Harriett Mitts (Ron), Jerry Goedhart (Carolyn), and Peg VanderMeulen.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday, June 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Rochester, Minn., with Pastor Larry Orth officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday evening, June 21st, from 5-7 p.m. in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester. There will also be a visitation one-hour prior to the church service (10:00am – 11:00am).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to assist with the kids’ college fund.  On-line condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.

“But as for me and my house—we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15

Condolences

The family of Larry Allen Goedhart has received the following condolences.

I recently read the obituary for Larry.  I immediately recognized him as the kind man who changed my flat tire in the parking lot of Econo Foods in Rochester many years ago.  He didn't have to, but he did.  I have never forgotten this.  My deepest sympathy to your family.

I was so sad to hear (from a coworker who also worked at Econo with Larry) of the passing of Larry.  I can't believe it. I really enjoyed comming to work with Larry everyday. He was such a nice, careing and fun person to work with. He taught me so much about the grocery business from when I first started as a part time grocery stocker back in 1991 until I left Econo back in 2001 as an Assistant Store Manager. I do truely missed those days working with Larry.

I am so sorry for the loss of Larry. I saw this obituary and instantly recognized him! I work at City Auto Glass and in November he had some glass cut, and was in our office. He was a wonderful customer and very memorable. God bless your family in this time.

Prayers,

Katie

My sincere condolences on the passing of Larry.  I enjoyed his friendship very much when I was in Hospers.

I was saddened to hear about Larry's passing. I have fond memories of working with him when we both worked for Nash Finch during the Rochester opening. Larry was a wonderful guy with a great sense of humor. It is my sincere prayer that you will take comfort in knowing he is with the Lord.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time.  May the Spirit fill you with the peace that passes all understanding.

Laura Haynes and family

Dear Mary and family,

I was so saddened to hear of Larry's passing.  He was one of the most sincere and honorable people I have ever known.

I will never forget the times I spent with Larry in the grocery business and can say that my time working with Larry, particularly in Rochester opening stores, were some of the most enjoyable of all my working experiences.  He was a true leader and it was his gentle style and loyalty that set him apart.  What a great partner in and friend he was.

You can be comforted in knowing that Larry is at peace in eternity and will be watching over you and the kids until you join him.  I know I will call on him for guidance in prayer the rest of my days.

My prayers are with all of you during this time.

Best regards,

Chuck Kosel

Larry will always be remembered as the kind and generous family man who greeted the Schaeffer kids with warmth and cheer.  His volunteer work on the board of Honors Choirs showed his dedication to the youth in our community.  He gave so readily of his time and talent to so many causes.  Larry and his family truly "walk the walk" and have been a wonderful example of a life committed to Christ.  His life has been and his legacy will be an inspiration to all who knew him.

Dear Mary, Allison, Jared, Kamaria and Zack,

Keith and I are praying for you as you go through these days of mourning the loss of your husband and Dad.

We have such wonderful memories of Larry and you Mary opening your home to us all of these years that I fought cancer, you were our home away from home.  We started with Allison and watched through the years as you rejoiced in adding each new addition to your family.  We always felt welcome.  Thank you for this gift.  Larry found time for his family and friends and you could always see his love for Christ.  Thank you for being God's messengers.

Love and prayers,

Keith and Meril Bell

Loving thoughts and many prayers for you during this very difficult time. I am, like so many others, heavy hearted to hear the news of your loss.  Larry touched so many lives and was loved by all. Be comforted knowing you are wrapped in God's strong arms.

I want to send my prayers to you and your family in the loss of Larry.  I went to high school with Larry and also to Hospers First Reformed Church together!  Larry was a year ahead of me in school but we had the same group of friends.    Larry's mom and my dad used to sing together also.  Over the years I have talked to him and was so impressed by how he had  become a wonderful man, husband and father!  I am sure that you will miss him a lot!  Just know that I will keep you all in my prayers and that the Lord is there also holding you up too!

I was deeply saddened to hear of Larry's passing. I too, like many others worked with him for many years at Econo Foods. He always made the workplace a little bit more enjoyable and was a favorite of many. His family was his pride and joy and I remember the kids always coming in to see him at work. It was a joy to watch them grow over the years. You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

With Deepest Sympathy,

Kristen Milburn Eyre

Dear Mary, Allison, Jared, Kamaria, and Zack,

My heartfelt sympathy reaches out to each of you in the loss of a beloved husband and father. Larry displayed to me his character as a quiet, caring, man full of Christs love and hope. I feel honored in knowing him and your family.

I had known Larry since 1987 when I went to work for Econo Foods.  I worked with him in Rochester and also Cannon Falls.  I for one will miss him.

Rest in peace my friend.

May the entire Goedhart Family receive comfort during this time of mourning. Larry was taken from us far, far too early. All of us here in Cannon Falls will miss him.

Dear Mary, Allison, Jared, Kamaria, and Zack,

Our memories of Larry are so special, especially the times he and Jared joined with David and John in activities with the "Schaeffer Cronies".  Always a smile and never an unkind word, Larry was a beautiful example of a godly man.  He will be truly missed.

Our deepest sympathy to all of you.

Warmly,

John, Kelly, David, Claire, and Grace

We are sorry for your loss and are praying for God's comfort for all of you.

Dear Goedhart Family,

Our hearts ache for your loss.  We pray for you all, that peace and hope fill your hearts with the void Larry's passing brings.  Your family has been a Godly example and inspiration to ours in the Schaeffer community.   Though we didn't know Larry well, his kind and friendly presence will not be forgotten.

Brad, Kara, Ryan and Anna Gunderson

I was just made aware of Larry's passing and I am deeply saddened. My heart-felt condolences go out to Mary, Allison, Jared, Kamaria, Zack and all those who had the pleasure of being in his presence.

I worked with Larry at Econo Foods from 1991-2000 and have very many fond memories of him... his smiling face, humor, amazing ability to solve a problem and any situation I or anyone presented him. It was rare he was ever not in a good, if not great, mood. He made my job(s) easier and was always probably a little more nicer on my reviews than perhaps he should have been! It goes without saying that Larry was a complete giver and always concerned about everyone else's experience... from a manager/customer relations to a personal/colleague standpoint. We opened up extra check lanes, he the checker, me the bagger, vice versa to help out when it was busy... he was always on top of it... always.

I will miss him and pray that God holds him gently in his arms as he did everyone around him.

The Goedhart family
