I feel so blessed to have known Lair for many years. I first met Lair at the Austin Methodist Church. I was the new kid in town and he made me feel so welcome when I became active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship. We remained friends through high school.
Lair worked for my father as a tile setters helper in 1955. My father said Lair was the best summer helper he ever had. Lair would take time to come and see my parents on his furlough from the Air Force. That's just the kind of caring person he was.
We would always catch up on one another's lives ato our class reunions. Lair would share stories about the trips he and Doris would take and stories about all of the children and grandchildren. He loved his family!
I have done the MS walk for 20 years in Lair's honor. I will continue to walk as long as I am able. It is the least I can do......he never complained about his MS and the toll it was taking on his body.
Lair was a wonderful frined and classmate. He will be missed by all of the surviving Class of 56 members at the next reunion.
My deepest sympathy to the entire DeSart family.
Sincerely,
Judy Hoogland
My thoughts and prayers are with you, Doris, and the whole family during this very difficult time. I am so thankful the two of you came for Jon and Taira's wedding so I got to meet him and enjoyed the two of you very much. Loved his notes and cards and liked when we had short visits on the phone as Jon wasn't home.
Thank you, Lair, for my wonderful son-in-law, Jon.
Lair was special. He lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed the journey no matter what "speed bumps" he met along the way. Lair seemed to have time for everyone and went out of his way to make them feel special. When I was growing up, he always made time for me when we were together. He teased, but never with a mean spirit to it and when you are a young girl of ten and he is a handsome man of twenty, you fell in love. Mother, Grace Dudley, loved and kept track of all her nieces and nephews. She kept me up-to-date on what they were doing and their families. He was a piece of the "fabric of our lives" and he will be missed.

Living in Utah, I obviously never met the elder Mr. DeSart but I do know what a wonderful son named Jay he had. I know that he had two wonderful grandsons named Ben and Nick too. They are very generous, caring, good friends to my family. Ben has been my son's best friend for many years and I treasure this family of DeSarts. They are all loyal, good, generous, considerate people and I attribute this to how Jay was raised and how he and Patti raised their sons. The Longs send their love and heartfelt condolences to all the DeSarts at this time. Love Susie Pat.
Doris Kathryn and I are so sorry for your loss. Although I did did not know Lair for a long period of time he has left an impression on my heart. He was a very kind and widdy man, a man that showed he loved you and the family very much. He would always make me laugh when he came and left my office. He left my office a better place then when he came in. Few people can do that. Lair was one who did. I was fortunate that I was able to know him even if it was only for a short time. Please know Doris that if you need anything we will be here. We will see you soon,
foundly,
Stephen and Kathryn Palen

My heart, prayers and thoughts go out to you all. We didn't see each other often, but always got a bearhug from him when I did, and yes he always loved to tease me. Imagine that.

Uncle Lair...What a guy! He always found the bright side of everything and a reason to laugh.
The measure of a life well-lived is through the lives they touched and the sorrow they leave behind. With the outpouring of sympathy, you can proudly and confidently say that his was a life well-lived.
