Kristofer Steven Djupedal

Kristofer “Kris” S. Djupedal – Rochester, MN.
Kris Djupedal, 36, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 from complications related to asthma.  He was born in Minneapolis, MN on June 25, 1982.

Kris began his education at Deephaven Elementary School followed by TASIS in England and the Anglo American School of Moscow in Russia where he graduated with an International Baccalaureate diploma.  He continued his studies at Bates College and Strayer University, earning both a BA and an MBA.

Kris moved to Rochester in 2003.  He initially worked for HyVee before entering a management program at Mayo Clinic in 2006.  He loved his work at Mayo in all of the positions he held, first with Hematology, then Executive Health, the Institutional Review Board and, until his death, with Quality Management Services.  He was actively engaged with NAMI Southeast Minnesota for many years, teaching classes and serving, over time, in every board office other than president.  He was passionate about helping individuals and families struggling with mental illness.

Kris’ other loves included his beloved English bulldog Sophia, friends, family, airplanes, travel, musicals, Christmas, European and Russian history and art.

Survivors include his parents, Eivind and Gwenn Djupedal of Santa Fe, NM; his sister, Jenny of St. Louis Park, MN, his English bulldog, Sophia, his uncle and three cousins in Norway, his cousin in Colorado and many other family members and friends throughout the world.

For those of us who knew Kris, we will always remember his gentle smile and his infectious laughter.

A visitation and celebration of Kris’ life will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24th in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester with Rev. Lester Horntvedt officiating.  Dinner will follow the service.  Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 25th at Oakwood East Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to NAMI SE MN https://namisemn.org.

Condolences

The family of Kristofer Steven Djupedal has received the following condolences.

The world has lost a wonderful man. Kris embodied the finest example of compassion, warmth, and tolerance. He blessed me with the privilege of talking about personal goals, challenges and resilience. He spoke often about cherished time with all of you. Although he has passed, his influence lives on, as he has touched the lives of so many people. Jenny, I am so grateful that you sent me word of his passing. At the time of publication of his obituary, I was entering the hospital for spinal surgery and was unaware of his passing. My last meeting with him was on April 16th and was abbreviated so that he could make preparations to seek treatment for his respiratory concerns at the hospital. My heart aches for your loss. Please know he will not be forgotten but always cherished as a remarkable young man.  Uplifting you all in prayers. Respectfully, Kathryn

Dear Gwenn and family,

I was shocked to hear that your son Kristofer passed away last week. I wish you a lot of strenght to cope with your grief. You will be in my thoughts, especially today.

Your book group friend from Belgium, Winnifred

We are so sorry for your loss.

Sincerely,

Louise and Walter

I’m very sorry for your recent loss. As I have a son with asthma, Kristofer’s obituary struck me. Death is an enemy we’re never really prepared to confront. I hope you can find solace in your good memories and in Gods promise of a resurrection of our loved ones to a paradise earth free from sickness, pain and suffering. Psalms 37:29 Revelation 22:3,4,5 My sincere condolences.

We are stunned and saddened by the news of Kris' sudden death. Our heartfelt condolences to all of you. Antje and Dan

May the love of family, the support of friend, and  the comfort of fond memories shared over the years bring warmth to your heart.   There is hope John 5:28,29

Dear Eivint and Gwenn

I am so sorry for your loss. Such a wonderful young man. I wish we had had a chance to know him. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers during this time of unimaginable loss

Kevin Twomey

Eivind and Gwenn, I have been struck by the loving notes left here by Kris’ friends, family and colleagues. He was a remarkable young man.

His loss to you, his parents, is only fearfully imaginable to those of us who are also parents and count you both as dear friends.

i can only wish that the stories of his life, funny and serious, as your child will surface and overflow your heart to bring you comfort. He obviously was a wonderful man and I know you are proud of him. Love, Dannehl

I looked so much forward to meeting you and Sophia, Kris.

Unfortunately, I have only seen your very special smile on pictures - and heard warm and fun stories from Uncle Howard. The too of you have the same eyes, did you know?

I know I would have adored you - and not only because you had a great taste for cars (Toyota ;-)

I will try to do whatever I can to help Howard be as good help as possible to your comfortless Mom, Dad and sister...

Love,

Vibeke

I think I first met Kris when I took a NAMI class that he co-taught with Courtney Lawson.  He struck me as a knowledgeable and considerate man.  Later I noticed how many hours of volunteer time he was putting in for NAMI, because part of my volunteer job was to enter volunteer hours each month in the computer.  I knew he needed to be nominated for the volunteer award.  It was a blessing to meet someone who gave so much more that he received.  I will remember all of you in my prayers (and God knows that I know what I am talking about).

Dear Djupedal Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with at this time. I only met Kris a few times: first as a toddler and then an adult. He appeared to have grown into an amazing adult. He was definitely taken too soon. I have always believed that no parent should have to bury a child but sometimes life intervenes. My condolences on this huge loss.

Kris will always have a special place in our hearts. He was a gentle, kind, intelligent man whose laughter was truly infectious. To Eivind, Gwenn, and Jenny, dear and cherished friends, our thoughts are very much with you during this most difficult time. We send our love.

Sending my deepest condolences as family and friends remember Kris.  I always enjoyed interacting with Kris in his various positions here at Mayo Clinic. He truly had a kind heart and I feel privileged to have known him.

Dear Djupedal Family:  We are immensely sorry for your loss.  Kris was a very valued member of our team here in Accreditation at Mayo Clinic.  He had a terrific heart and spirit, a great sense of humor, and he will be greatly missed.  We are sending you all our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.  Please take care of yourselves.

In memory,

The Mayo Clinic Accreditation Team.

With my heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your son and brother.  I know he is now at peace.  May your wonderful memories of him help you during this period of sorrow.  I just made a donation to NAMI in his memory per your wishes.  Heal fast dear cousins.

Please accept our most heartfelt sympathy. We had the privilege of working with Kris and knew him as a fine and decent man. He will be missed by all.

Our loving thoughts go out to Eivind, Gwenn and Jenny. Loss of a beloved child and brother is a heartache that never leaves you, only becomes less magnified after time. All the lovely memories of your son and your family times will help all three of you during this difficult time. Devoted friends and family will be there for you when you need them, please make use of their words of comfort and if close enough to you, their hugs. Your grief is not something totally understood by a person, unless experienced by that person, but all will love you and help as well as they are able.
