Kiel Richard Warnken, 28, of Rochester, MN was killed on October 1 2015, as a result of a tragic accident that occurred at a quarry mining and asphalt facility.
He was born 7/27/87, at 7am in Rochester to Rick and Sheryl (Babcock) Warnken. Kiel was a Mayo H.S. graduate of the class of 2006, and completed the Truck Driving course for a CDL, Commercial Driver’s License in 2007, at the Southeast Technical College in Winona. He worked various jobs at the following: Holiday Inn South, Rochester City Lines, Med City/Star Limousine, PetSmart. Walmart in Rochester and Blue Earth, Sam’s Club in Apple Valley, and McLane in Northfield. Truck driving jobs that took him into at least 20 states included: Midwestern Bio Ag in Utica, Quandt Trucking in Grand Meadow, MacFarland Truck Lines in Austin, Lunning Trucking in LeRoy, Eilen & Sons Trucking in Hampton, LC Trucking in Kasson, and Rochester Asphalt and Concrete. Places he had lived are: Lewiston, Winona, Lakeville, Farmington, Welch, Pine Island, and Rochester.
He enjoyed tractors and lawn mowers at his grandparents. His Big Wheel tires would no longer roll after long hours of riding. He played football and broke his arm a time or two. He was an assistant for the Mayo Spartan Girls Basketball team. He spent a few years after school rebuilding a 1964 Ford F100 pickup for Rochester VICA Street Rods/Skills USA. The Titanic and the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior always intrigued him. The Minnesota Vikings were watched on TV, and the Twins games at Target Field were enjoyed with his family and grandmothers. Earnhardt Sr. and Kyle Busch were Kiel’s favorite NASCAR drivers. He loved to watch ghost shows, but never alone. Took countless pictures of sunsets and loved the peacefulness of the country. He took his first airplane flight this year to Houston Texas, and 2 weeks later flew with his family to Dallas Texas for a family wedding. Alex and Casey (the other family members) were the family pugs. His brother and him would go for rides in the truck and laugh for hours over lines of funny movies. Kiel loved to sing 80’s songs with his mom, and crank the tunes of his favorite country music. Kiel fell in love with the semi tractors after riding along many times with his dad. He always hugged and kissed his family, told them that he loved them, before walking out the door. He had the outlook in life to respect, to help family and friends, and to make people happy.
After Kiel’s death, his close friends paid honor to him with “One Last Ride” for Kiel. They made 200 window stickers and almost sold all of them within hours. They rallied friends and family to drive the streets of Rochester. Freedom Flag Runners of Winona rallied the streets also, and presented the family with an American flag and t-shirt. They came from all over to pay their respects.
Kiel is survived by his parents, Sheryl and Rick; his brother David Babcock; grandmother Joyce Warnken; 5 uncles and their families: Roger & Judi Babcock, Gene & Sharon Warnken, Gary & Sue Babcock, Glenn Warnken, Ron & Susie Babcock. Kiel was preceded in death by his grandparents: Donald Warnken and Clifford & Jessie Babcock; and an uncle Charles Babcock.

From the challenges of his own day four centuries ago, St. Francis de Sales once wrote this about God:
“The same everlasting Father who cares for you today will care for you tomorrow and every day. Either he will shield you from suffering, or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, then, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginings.”
To the family of Kiel Warnken:
My sincerest condolences for your loss. I worked with Kiel on a number of different occasions to make sure the CDL stayed intact. Kiel Warnken was more than a client but also a friend as we would always spend time discussing both of our families after our meetings. My heart sunk when I heard the news last week. Once again, I am so sorry for your loss.
Sincerely,
Zach Bauer
My deepest sympathy to the Warnken Families on your loss.

Our hearts go out to you, so sad, we have cried many tears for the loss of sweet Kiel. I remember how kind and shy Kiel was when we all camped at the Ponderosa. Always a loving and respectful young man. A gentle soul and he will be greatly missed.
You are in our prayers. May the Holy Spirit cradle you and bring you peace and comfort knowing that he now lives with God in heaven. He was a mischievous angel here on earth, we know he is one in heaven.

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Kiel back in 2008 when I was going to school in Winona. We have remained friends ever since. We didn't get to hang out very much, after i moved back to the cities, but we tried to keep in touch as much as life allowed. I can't believe he is gone. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. I am very sad I can't make it down to say goodbye to him. I will remember him always for his kind heart and his laid back nature.

My deepest condolences and thoughts go out to the family and friends of Kiel. I met Kiel in high school where we both graduated together in 2006. While I wish I had spent more time getting to know Kiel during our years at Mayo together, I will never forget what a kind, thoughtful, and upbeat person he was. He always had a big smile on his face and knew how to turn your day around in a heartbeat. I'll always remember the wonderful person that Kiel was, and I know that, without a doubt, he will be missed tremendously by all who knew him.
