Dr. Kevin J. Kenny

What an exceptional husband Dr. Kevin Kenny was to Kathleen, our mother and heroine. These parents have been our pillars, holding us up and teaching us wisdom simply by living as extraordinary people.

Although Kevin is not with us on this earth as of October 23, 2010, he is here, continuously guiding us. We will make him proud by learning from his example and being each other’s foundations.

Kevin died of complications from leukemia, and it was a difficult journey, but this road has come to an end. The first day of his radiation therapy treatment in the capable hands of the caregivers here at the Mayo Clinic happened to fall on our parents’ 30th wedding anniversary.

Kevin wrote a letter to our mother telling her he was so very looking forward to reflecting on their many happy years together, and how glad he was to be spending their 30th anywhere in the world as long as it was with her. Dad will continue to be with Kathleen and with his children for the rest of our lives because we can feel him in our hearts and know that he is with us. Kevin persistently put others before himself, and he requests that in lieu of flowers or gifts, he would be thankful to see donations made to hematology research at the Mayo Clinic and the Gift of Life Transplant Center. Any checks made to the family will go to these institutions. Thank you, Dad, for being Mom’s companion, our guardian, and a model individual for this world.

A memorial visitation will be held at Macken Funeral Home on Monday, October 25 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, with a second visitation on Tuesday, October 26 at 9:00 a.m. The funeral service will be held at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 26 with the Rev. Msgr Gerald A. Mahon officiating.
