Kenneth R. Bee

The funeral for Kenneth R. Bee will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 at Macken Funeral Home, River Park Chapel in Rochester, MN with Jerald Barnhart officiating.  Burial will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery for the immediate family.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Macken Funeral Home, River Park Chapel and one hour prior to the funeral.

Mr. Bee, 61, of Rochester, MN, formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY, died Tuesday morning (December 13, 2011) unexpectedly at his home.

Ken was born December 26, 1949 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Robert and Marjorie Bee.  As a child, his family relocated to Rochester, MN.  After graduating from Mayo High School in 1968, Ken enlisted in the Army and served in the Vietnam War with the 173rd Airborne Brigade.  After his military service he returned to Rochester and worked as a mason before becoming a firefighter for the City of Rochester for many years.  In 1976, he married Susan Schmidt.

Survivors include his wife, Susan, his three sons, Charles (Jessica Sund), Richard, and Michael, as well as his daughter Catherine (Travis Kurtz).  He is also survived by his parents and his brother, Roger Bee.

Ken will be most remembered for his fierce wit, range of interests, and sense of adventure.  He greatly enjoyed volunteering his time to the American Legion Post 92 in Rochester, MN.  For that reason, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Legion in his name.

Condolences

The family of Kenneth R. Bee has received the following condolences.

Sue and Family,

I am so sorry to hear about your tragic loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Candi

Ricky, I'm so sorry for your loss.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  Katie Orth

The last memory I have of my cousin Kenneth is from Edison House.  He and Roger built a little cabin from wood they hauled down the mountain from “Dane House”.  I watched with amazement at how perfect their creation was.   Even way back then, Kenneth clearly had an amazing natural talent, it was definitely a gift of his.  Sometimes I feel sorry I was never closer to my family, I only talked to Kenneth once as an adult, he seemed kind, knowing and wise, the kind of person you hope to have as a friend or close relative to be there if you ever needed help.

Painfully, sadly we must acknowledge that Kenneth is gone, but the echo of his voice will remain with his family and they will reflect the man that he was.  I have no doubt that some very distant time in the future, a lone traveler will be gazing out the window of their vehicle on some Minnesota road and spot an old stone wall and stare with amazement at how perfect this creation is and wonder who it was that made it.

Dear Sue and family, I am so sorry to hear about Ken's death.  I know that you must be devestated by his loss.  You will be in my thoughts and prayers.  I hope that you will will feel God's healing love and be comforted by all the people who have been touched by Ken's life.

To the Bee family; We're so sorry for your loss. You're in our thoughts and prayers.

To the Bee family:  Please accept our deepest condolences.  Ken was a part of our elementary school experiences and was an unforgettable character. We remember his arrowheads and all the interesting things he brought to school to share, as well as all his adventures in life.

We wish for you peace and comfort in the days ahead.

Philip and Carolyn Kath

Dear Mike and family, I am so sorry for your loss . Times like this I have a hard time finding the right words to say . Just know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

My condolences to Ken's wife and family. I only had the pleasure of meeting your Dad/husband this past spring.  He drove a long way out help Colleen and I with a well project.  Working alongside Ken B. was how I got to know him. The guy had my ultimate respect right away as I am also a vet. But why I really liked the guy was his wisdom, and his humility. I will keep you all in my prayers, and will forever remember Ken B.  God Bless.

Sue and family,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  I know how special he was to you Sue --- my heart iand tears are with you.  Prayers and sympathies are sent your way.

Dear Sue and family,

I am one of the former owners of Rochester Brick and would like to offer my condolences to everyone in your family. Kenny was one of the nicest soft-spoken customers whom ever entered the doors at Rochester Brick. He always had a smile and something interesting to talk about! Once again, condolences to your family on your loss.

                                                                                                    Sincerly,

                                                                                                    Mike Steier

Dear Sue and Family:  Ken touched so many people in his own unique way.  He was a good man and I am proud to call him my friend.  It's not often that a friendship that started in first grade lasts into your 60's.  We may have skipped a few years now and then, but when ever I ran into him it was as if no time had passed.  May the support of all who loved him sustain you during this time of grief.  To know him is to celebrate a life lived to it's fullest.  He will be missed, but we will all remember him as an important part of our lives.

Love, Rebecca Hill

Dear Sue, Charlie, Ricky, Mike, & Catherine -

I'm so sorry for the sudden loss of your dad and husband.  Since the day we first met when I was 16, Ken became my most favorite, special cousin.  The concern, generosity, and loyalty he showed me throughout the years was appreciated and will never be forgotten.  I admired him for the passion he held for so many things in life - from construction projects, to accordians, gardening, farm animals, antiques - the list goes on.  When I visited he always made time to show me his latest adventure with enthusiasm.

Ken, thanks for being there for me for 43 years. Gosh, I'll miss ya....

You're all in my heart and prayers -

Grace

Catherine,

My deepest sympathy to you & your family. You are in my thoughts & prayers. I pray that He will comfort you, surround you with His love & give you strength!

Sue-

Ken's energy, generosity, expansive knowledge, skills, ideas, & sense for adventure were exciting attributes that I (and many others) appreciated and highly respected in Ken. We will cherish our memories and also miss him.

May you and your family find comfort in knowing that Ken loved & lived life to the fullest.

Rich & Shirley Peter

My friend Sue.  I am so sorry for your loss and want you to know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Sue and family,

I only met Ken once in person but had the privilege of knowing of him via Sue's sharing her family experiences with me over the years we worked together at PRC. I always had the impression that Ken was willing to be true to himself and what was important to him--family, valuing the past-whether that was via Indian artifacts or old buildings, using his skills and talents to serve-whether in the military, the fire department or friends and neighbors.  He and Sue were an amazing force of two in their efforts to raise a family, complete home improvement or construction projects.

Sue, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.  Please use all that you know to care for yourself in the days and months to come.

With my sympathy and His Peace,

Connie N. Hollister

Sue,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I first met Ken in school first grade. From there we became best friends for many years. We hunted together rode motor cycles together. We also got in a lot of trouble together. We sure had fun. Ken was also my business partner for a few years. I did the excavating and Ken did the masonry. When I read of Kens passing I to was in shock. My heart felt condolences to the family.

RIP ole friend you may be gone but will never be forgotten.

Jim Dickman

Dear Roger, and all of your family-----Aunt Suzie, Uncle Bob and everyone,      I was shocked to hear of Kenneth's passing.  My last memory of him was when he was fixing up a house somewhere on the outskirts of Rochester in 97.  Roger took my two son's there and myself, and of course, Kenneth had his same mischevious smile.      Then the memories of reunions in Cold Spring N.Y. came back with many fun times with cousins, Kenneth would be in the middle of it----being that he was the same age as my brother.  My great uncle Bob, Kenneth's grandfather, would be running around the house with a hose, getting everyone soaked and laughing.    I hope he's having fun up there with his grandpa.  Please know that my heart is with you all.         Lynne Howland Ruetenik

I was so sorry to hear of Ken's passing. I have many memories of him from the time I knew him while working at Farmers Insurance/Jim Ditlevson and my time with friends at the American Legion Post 92. He was truly a kind man and had interesting stories.  He will be missed by many.

I grew up knowing Ken as we lived a few blocks apart and went to the same schools. He was always a kick and always marching to his own drummer. I had such a nice chat with him at the last reunion I went to. We exchanged emails and generally got caught up. I was so very sorry to hear of this and know he will be missed.

Sincerely,

We feel such great sorrow to have lost Ken. We send you our prayers and wish you will find strength to get through this sad time. Ken was a fascinating, generous, funny friend. He had so many interests and enthusiasms. He was so smart - he knew all about a multitude of things, from nature to history, from mechanics to gardening. He treated us with such great kindness and support. We will always treasure the happy times we spent working together. No one will be able to take his place in our hearts.

The greatest Christmas is when Ken pulled all the grandkids together, and started a concert in the clubhouse, great times! My thoughts and prayers are with your family Sue.  Love Deb

Dear Sue, My hearty condolence to you and your family. My prayers are with you.

Sue and family,

Words are not enough to express what a wonderful man Ken was in many peoples lives.  I think back to how much of a hard worker he was and how the quality of his work and relationships with people was top nothch.  I think back to meeting Ken when he stood outside my home, in winter, and driilled through poored concrete to build a fireplace for me and my family.  I will never forget him or how much pride he took in his work and his family.

God Bless you all at this difficult time!!!!

Love
