Kitty, as she was fondly known to friends and family, was 94 when she passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the Seasons Hospice House. Kitty was born October 24, 1923 on the family farm near Preston Minnesota as the fourth of ten children to Tilford and Laura (Blaksvedt) Kulsrud. She graduated from high school in Preston and attended business college in Winona, Minnesota. In 1943, Kitty moved to Chicago with her sister Helen to work for the government. They were in Chicago for only a few months as their father needed the girls back on the farm to help harvest (pick) the corn crop.
In 1947, Kitty married Charles (Chuck) Barry of Rochester. Together they had three sons and one daughter. They made their home in Rochester most of their life except for three years when the family lived in Portland, Oregon. Though Kitty worked for Sears for many years, her most cherished vocation was as a devoted partner to Chuck, mother and grandmother. She always had a big hug and loving smile for everyone she met. She was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Kitty and her family enjoyed visiting her sister, Helen, and family “up north”. She also enjoyed accompanying Chuck on several WWII US Naval Armed Guard reunions over the years. Kitty was very proud of her son, Mark and daughter-in-law Beth and grandson Kim and granddaughter Sydney of Helena, Montana. Kitty’s daughter Vicki was her joy and light of her life as anyone who knows Vicki would agree.
Kitty is preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; and sons, Scott and Kim; as well as three of her brothers and five of her sisters. She is survived by her son, Mark (Beth) Barry of Helena Montana; daughter, Vicki Barry of Rochester; grandson, Kim, and granddaughter, Sydney, of Helena Montana; sister, Helen Klingsporn of Rochester; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; as well as numerous friends.
Kitty’s family wishes to thank friends and family for the years of support and especially thanks to the Seasons Hospice House staff for their love and support they provided Kitty prior to her death. Memorials to honor Kitty are suggested for Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society, Ability Building Center (ABC) of Rochester and Season’s Hospice of Rochester.

Dear Mark, Beth and family and sweet Vicki, You are in our thoughts and prayers. We are so sorry for your loss. Your mom and dad and Vicki were special to our family. They lived next door to us in Rochester for 13 yrs. So very kind they were. We have good memories of them, and am sure you will miss them, too!! I was able to see your mom a year or so ago and we had such a nice visit (when she was at the place by High Point). Your family will be in our prayers. We love you all!!
Paul, Theresa Osgood and family
