Katharine I. Franks

Katharine (Kay Nelson) Franks –Chatfield

Katharine (Kay) Meyer Franks, 75, formerly Kay Nelson of Rochester, MN, passed away Sunday December 10th 2023, at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester after a long battle with kidney failure.

Kay was born February 18, 1948, to Erwin and Mildred (Reich) Meyer in Rochester.  She graduated from John Marshall High School in 1966.

She married Robert Nelson in 1967 and later divorced.  She married the love of her life, Robert (Bobby) Franks, Jr. on July 18, 1997.  Kay was employed by International Transport for 18 years and for Rochester Public Schools (Community Education) thereafter.

Kay enjoyed her flower garden, picking berries, quilting, needlework, volunteering, spending time with her family, friends, and dog.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents and sister Sylvia Valley of St. Cloud, MN. She is survived by her husband, Robert, her son Brian Nelson of Rochester, sister: Paula Sash of Cedar Falls, IA and grandchildren, Harry Nelson of Snellville, GA, Sydney and Lucas Nelson of Owatonna, and Christopher Bremseth of Minneapolis.

A funeral will be held in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Kay’s last message is “Don’t ever forget I love you.”

Kay and I worked together at International Transport for my years, and often had breaks together. She was always busy doing crafts and everyone enjoyed her.  I will miss her
