Joyann Moore

Joyann Moore, 93, a Homestead RLC resident, passed away quietly July 5, after a long battle with heart disease. Until moving to Rochester a year ago to be near family, Joyann enjoyed living 27 years in California with husband Jack.

Born the second of three daughters of Hugh and Gertrude Clipson in Glenwood, IA,  Joyann attended high school in Lenox, IA, making many lifelong friends. She married her high school sweetheart Max Cochran upon his return from WWII. They were blessed with one son, Bill. After business school, before marriage, Joyann became secretary to an Iowa state senator. So began her lifelong secretarial career. She was executive secretary to the dean of Dana College for many years and later to the director of the University of Nebraska-Omaha library. Several years after her divorce from Max, Joyann became reacquainted with former classmate Jack Moore at a high school reunion. Their marriage added three dearly-loved step-children and their families to Joyann’s life.

Joyann lived that name. She always had a smile and brought energy and joy into the lives of those around her. She was game for anything, especially with grandkids: waterslides, tree-climbing, Disneyland and more. She was an avid jazzerciser and led water aerobics class for many years in CA. Her strong Christian faith showed in her daily actions.

Joyann was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters and brothers-in-law Grace (Ben) Gleckler and Phyllis (Tom) Rittgers, former husband Max, and husband Jack Moore. She is survived by her son Bill (Marcia) Cochran; step-children Gary(Kara) Moore, Lisa (David) Newsham, Debbie (Steven) Dyk; thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their children.

Deepest thanks to the staff at Homestead RLC, Seasons Hospice staff and volunteers, and to dear friend Connie for making her days happier ones.

Joyann’s funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester, MN, with visitation one hour before. Interment will be at Silver City, IA, Wednesday, July 13, 11 a.m. Memorials are suggested to Seasons Hospice, the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, Leader Dogs for the Blind, or American Heart Association.
