Joseph B. Thompson, age 57, of Rochester, MN, died Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at his home.
He was born August 9, 1963 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Joe lived his whole life in Rochester. He worked as a chef for many years.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Jo Genz of Rochester; daughter, Shyla Jo Thompson of Rochester; sister, Julie Genz, and niece, Anika Pool of Washtington.
He is preceded in death by his father, the late Jerome Genz; sister, Andrea Thompson; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lynaugh; great aunts, Verna and Helen Kruger.
Memorials are preferred to Resurrection Catholic Church, Paws and Claws, or the donor’s choice.
The memorial Mass for Joe will be Friday, August 6, 2021 at 11:00AM at Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester, with Rev. Peter Schuster officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

My husband and I knew Joe for many years. My husband and Joe went to Mayo High School together in 1979. They worked together at the Kahler Hotel and Michael's Restaurant for years. Joe was hard working and cared about the quality of the food he prepared. He was known for his hard work ethic and a very talented chef. He will be missed. Rest in peace Joe.
