The funeral Service for John P. Kelly Jr. will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday February 22, 2016 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester, with Pastor Karna Hagen Moskalik officiating. John will be interred in the Mausoleum at Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday February 21, 2016 in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home.
Mr. Kelly, 86, of Rochester, died Wednesday February 17, 2016, at his daughter’s house in Rochester.
John was born July 22,1929 to John and Verona Baier Kelly. On September 12, 1948, he married Bonnie Tweite at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson, MN. They were married for 60 years. Bonnie passed away November 1, 2008.
As a young man John worked as a farmer, he drove truck for 12 years and later retired from Rochester School District # 535 after 29 years of service. John was a long time member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Eagles FOE #2228. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, horses, tractors, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include Kathy Kelly of Harris, MN., Barb (Carl) Girtler of Sparks, NV., Patricia Hameister of Rochester, MN. , and Richard (Cindy) Kelly of North Mankato, MN. He has seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Bonita Heidke of Fountain, MN., brothers Curtis (Kathy) Kelly of Springfield, MO., and Doug Kelly of Rochester. John was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Bonnie, two brothers Floyd and Robert Kelly, brother-in-law Harold Heidke and granddaughter Krista Doocy.
Memorials are preferred to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Seasons Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

John was one of my dads favorite nephews. I am sorry for your loss.
