John M. Tushaus

John Martin Tushaus, 75, of Rochester, MN passed away Monday December 23, 2019 at Saint Marys Hospital.

John was born on January 6, 1944 in Lake City, MN to Herman and Mary (Agnes) (Schlundt) Tushaus. He graduated from Libby High School in Libby, Montana. In 1967 he joined the armed service and was stationed in San Pedro, Los Angeles, California at Fort MacAthur; later serving in South Korea in 1969. In 1973 he married Debra A. Fisher of Grand Meadow, MN. The couple made a life together and raised three children in Rochester, MN.

John loved the solitude and joy of spending his time with family and talking about his athletic career while attending the University of Arizona; holding the nation’s best javelin throw in 1963. Then in 1966, breaking the American record in while attending the Coliseum Relays in Los Angeles, California. He loved nature, enjoyed taking in new releases at the theater, long drives along the Mississippi river and stops as needed at local restaurants along the way. John enjoyed requesting getaways to Libby, Montana; this is where his heart and passion remained. His love for the mountains and fast-moving rivers called him back often.

He is survived by his sons, Colby Tushaus of Rochester, Taybin Tushaus of Savage, MN; daughter, Shay Tushaus of Katy, Tx and one grandson. He is proceeded in death by four sisters, and one brother.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14th, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home (1119 11 1/2 St SE, Rochester, MN 55904).

Condolences

The family of John M. Tushaus has received the following condolences.

Dear Deb, Colby,Tabin, and Shay,

Please accept our families deepest sympathy on the loss of John.  We have many wonderful memories of our kids growing up together in Rose Haven. Thoughts and prayers to all of you.

I had so many good times chatting with your dad.  I was chosen to golf with him at the Rosehaven golf tournament.  Thank god it was best shot!,,,   I did get two putts.   But lots of laughter. I will never forget how white he was when he ran over Bandit. He was so concerned he had hurt him, but he just came rolling out  John felt worse than the dog. He was so proud of his children and loved going golfing with taybin.  It was a honor to have him as a neighbor and friend.

Sorry about your loss.  Love you guys.

Jan

Fond memories will forever be in my hear.  Prayers to all the family.
