John (Jack) Coggins, 81, of Rochester, MN passed away peacefully in the early hours of Friday Morning (June 12, 2015) at Season’s Hospice after 13 years of winning the battle against Multiple Myeloma. He takes with him the hearts of his family and friends.
Jack was born December 25, 1933 at St Marys Hospital to Charles and Lorraine Coggins. He attended Northrup grade school, Rochester Central School and Rochester High School. He continued his education at Rochester Junior College until he was drafted into the army in 1956. He then returned home and worked at the Mayo Clinic for 37 years. He loved working with people.
On June 7, 1958 Jack married the love of his life, Alice Irene Roth of Rochester, MN at the church in which they first met, Trinity Lutheran. Together they enjoyed many activities bowling, fishing, golf, cruising around the world, and spending leisure time drinking brandy-manhattans with those he loved most. Jack was a loving and kind man who put others before himself; he was a devoted and loved God and the church. He served as an Elder, an usher, financial secretary, and many other roles.
Jack was a loving husband to his soul mate Alice, and father to two sons, Brent (Ginny) Coggins of Rochester and Lee (Sheila) Coggins of Friendswood, TX. He was also the proud and loving grandfather to two granddaughters, Jacquelyn (Nate) Proper of Rochester, MN , Charlotte Coggins of Friendswood, TX, and two step-grandchildren Jessie Rueb of Rochester, MN, and Jerik (Susan) Brumm of Eden Prairie, MN and three great-grandsons and four step-great-grandchildren. He has also survived by a brother, Tom Coggins, of Rochester, MN and numerous extended family members. Spending time with his family and friends was a very important part of his life; nothing made him happier than having those he loved gathered together.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church. The visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Macken Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations are made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Mayo Clinic Cancer Research.

I am sorry to hear of my Uncle Jack's passing. I have many found memories of Alice and Jack visiting my parents. The laughter was infectious. I will always be thankful for the love and support from both Jack and Alice during my fathers illness. It was a difficult time but the love of family was comforting. May you all relish in the wonderful memories and carry on the way Jack would approve; loving life and cherishing family.
