John “Jack” Campion

The funeral Mass for John P. “Jack” Campion will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 5455 50th Ave NW, Rochester with Rev. Tom Loomis officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in St. Bridget’s Cemetery.

Mr. Campion died Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at his home after a short battle with cancer. Jack was born July 10, 1928 at St. Marys Hospital to Edward and Elsie (Ulrich) Campion. He grew up on the farm near Marion and was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church. He attended schools in Marion and Chatfield and graduated from Lourdes High School in 1945. He married Marjorie Rogers on September 19, 1949 at St. Bridget’s Church. They farmed near Predmore for 13 years and moved to a small farm near Douglas. He began his IBM career in 1960, retiring in 1989. Marjorie died in June 1993. He married Joyce (Warneke) Guenther on April 12, 1997 at Holy Spirit Church. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, horses, sports, and family time. He had a huge heart and his Irish wit made many people smile.

Jack is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Linda Stiller; sons, Lawrence (Laurie), David (Julie Fjerstad), Ricky, and Daniel (Dawn); stepdaughters, Barbara (Lanny) Kretsch and Aimee (Kyle) Lake; stepsons, Michael (Sheila) and Mark (Diane) Guenther; ten grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jeremy, Stephanie, Shawn, Tiffany, Lucas, and Chandra Campion, Kari Blom, Melissa and Travis Stiller; eleven step-grandchildren, Kim Wegman, Jessica Witt, Heather Daly, Cory, Charles, William, and Matthew Guenther, Kelsey Baertsch, Andrew and Hailey Kretsch, Ryann and Lydie Lake; 22 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert, and many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, infant daughter, granddaughter, great-great-grandson, parents, two brothers, a sister, daughter-in-law, and step daughter-in-law.

Memorials are requested to Holy Spirit Catholic Church or St. Vincent de Paul Society. All checks payable to Holy Spirit Church for distribution as indicated on the memo line.

  So sorry for your loss.  Our fathers were cousins, and were both raised in the “Campion farm“ area.  The Irish wit ran strong in the family.
