John J. Holland

A Graveside Service for John J. Holland will be 11:15AM Friday, May 1, 2015 at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester, officiated by Rev. Lester Horntvedt. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 92. A one-hour visitation is scheduled beginning at 10:00AM Friday in the River Park Chapel of Macken Funeral Home, followed by a procession to the cemetery.

Mr. Holland, age 81 of Rochester died Monday, April 27, 2015 at St. Marys Hospital.

He was born September 14, 1933 at Oronoco to John and Clara (Hanson) Holland. He served in the US Army in the mid-1950’s. On July 18, 1964 he married Barbara Hofschulte in Rochester and she survives.

John worked in construction for a number of years and then later as a security guard for Mayo Clinic for more than twenty years until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed the great outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Holland Hoven and two half-brothers, Bob and Harvey Knutson.

I love the memories of fishing with my Uncle Jack.  He was a great friend and mentor.  What a treasure to have him in our family!  Our condolences to all who knew Jack.
