Jodi Michelle Yates
Jodi Michelle Yates (Miner) of Rochester, Minnesota, was born on January 15th, 1965, and was called home to heaven on February 7th. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous six-month battle with brain cancer.
Jodi was born at St. Mary’s Hospital to Jim and Jean Miner. She grew up in Rochester and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1983 before continuing her education at Rochester Vocational Technical College. In 1984, she began her career at Mayo Clinic, and she took great pride in serving for over 40 years.
Jodi met her high school sweetheart, Ray Yates while working at Bonanza Family Restaurant in Rochester, and they married in 1987. Together they raised three beautiful children; Nicole, Danielle, and Branden. Although she loved working for Mayo, her passion in life was being a wife, mom, and grandma and she excelled at all three. Jodi was a loving, caring, giving, and selfless soul who was always just a phone call away.
Jodi loved sitting on the deck with her husband listening to the sounds of nature and birdwatching. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, boating, traveling with her family, and backyard bonfires. She was a proud Minnesotan, loved supporting Minnesota sports, and attending the Minnesota State Fair every summer. Jodi cherished spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren at every opportunity. She will be deeply missed by all.
Jodi is survived by her husband Ray, of 37 years; children Nicole (Joe) Folken of Rochester, Danielle (Darren) Fischer of Lakefield, MN, and Branden Yates of La Crosse, WI; grandchildren Natalie and AJ Folken and Parker and Ian Fischer; father Jim Miner of Rochester; sister Kim (Heath) Klauer of Hayfield; and nieces and nephews.
Jodi is preceded in death by her mother Jean Miner.
The family would like to thank her care team at Mayo Clinic and the Mayo Clinic Hospice staff.
A memorial service for Jodi will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 19th in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, 1119 11 1/2 St SE, Rochester MN. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, February 18th at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service.

I found out about Jodi's passing earlier today. My deepest condolences to the Miner / Yates families. Jodi was a kind-hearted person who also had a great sense of humor. "A butterfly lights up beside us like a sunbeam and for a brief moment it's glory and beauty belong to our world. But then, it flies away. And although we wish it could have stayed, we feel so lucky to have seen it."
To Ray and family I met your mom at Mayo Clinic almost 40 years ago. I kept in touch with your mom and dad and attended their wedding and a few showers then moved to the ctities. Loved receiving your mom’s Xmas card every year. I am lost knowing she is gone. Your mom was a beautiful light and she also was there for me whether by text or just in thought. She was someone I always admired she was so nice, loving and a great sports fan. I know she will be missed but she will always be in my heart. Ray my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
To Ray and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. While I never had the chance to meet Jodi, I heard such great things about her from Ray. I know that she was very loved, and I hope for you all to find peace with time. You're in my thoughts.
My heart goes out to Jodi's family during this difficult time. Jodi was always positive, compassionate, helpful and she was always a joy to work with. She would go the extra mile to make sure our patients were given the best care possible. She was a good listener, and was there for me when I was going through some hard times. She was very kind and caring, and it meant a lot to me. Jodi loved her family so much. She taught me how important family is and how family is always there for each other. I feel blessed that we got to work together. Jodi brought joy into my life! My heart aches and I will miss her so much!
