Joanne Mary Jereczek

Joanne Mary Jereczek, 89 of Rochester, passed away peacefully of congestive heart failure on December 19, 2020 at Edenbrook Rochester.

Joanne Mary Neumann was born on February 17, 1931 in Adams, WI to Bernard and Grace (Toshner) Neumann. She attended Sparta, WI grade schools and graduated from Sparta High School. She then graduated from Winona Beauty College. Her first job was as Manicurist at the Kahler Beauty Shop in Rochester. Joanne worked at various beauty shops before realizing her dream: to open her own shop, The Pretty Parlor, in 1963 at her home. She retired in 2010, after over 60 years in the business. On June 28, 1949 she married Mark L. Jereczek at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta, WI. Together, they raised seven children. Joanne was a devout Catholic, and a longstanding member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Rochester. She was also a longstanding member of the Minnesota Hairdresser’s Association. She loved flowers, gardening, and bird-watching (with a special affinity for cardinals and hummingbirds). Above all else, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Mark L. of Rochester, MN; her children, Shireen (Gary) Thurnau of Owatonna, MN, Mark B. (Christine) Jereczek of Farmington, MN, Kristeen (David) Kiehn of Albert Lea, MN, Janeen (Larry) Hamilton of Duluth, MN, Laureen (Stephen) Cordie of Woodbury, MN, Dean (Wanda) Jereczek of Rochester, MN, John M. (Tammy) Jereczek of Couer d’ Alene, ID; her two sisters, Nancy (Allen) Strain of Foxboro, WI, and Bernadette (Raymond) Schmitt of Eagle, WI; her sisters-in-law, Mary Neumann, Shirley Neumann, Ginger Neumann, Sue Neumann; 21 grandchildren, Carissa, Emily, Sarah, Ben, Katherine, Elizabeth, Ranee, Amber, Stacy, Joshua, Kathleen, Travis, Crystal, Brent, Joy, Nicole, Laura, Matthew, Halle, Ella, John; 21 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Maggie, Natalie, Caleb, Alayna, Anton, Eli M., Leah, Nevaeh, Gage, Zeke, Nathan, James, Joseph, Peter, June, Ezra, Madilynn, Michael, Kameron, Eli Jack and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jerome, Leon, David, Thomas, and her sisters-in-law Rita Jereczek and Rosanne Jereczek.

Due to the current pandemic, the funeral service for Joanne will be held at a later date. Her ashes will ultimately rest at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

The Jereczek family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the staff at Edenbrook and Mayo Hospice for their wonderful, loving care.

Dear Mark & Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember childhood visits with my family to your home in Rochester and how much we all enjoyed getting our hair done in Joanne’s salon. My mom and I enjoyed being able to celebrate your 50th anniversary with you. I have lots of happy memories of those visits. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Janeen and family

My condolences on the loss of your mother.

Jereczek Family,

Peace be to the whole family and blessed be Joanne's memory to us all. She was the brightest light to Edenbrrok and I'll forever cherish my time with her learning about Pretty Parlor and placing her hair in a high ponytail. Her beauty, inside and out, was incomparable.

Hugs to you all.

Much Love,

Maggie (Former Administrator of Edenbrook of Rochester)
